K–12

K–12 (spoken as "k twelve", "k through twelve", or "k to twelve") is a term for the sum of primary and secondary education. It is used in the United States, Canada, South Korea, Turkey, the Philippines, Egypt, Australia and Iran. P–12 is also occasionally used in Australia. The expression is a shortening of kindergarten (K) for 4- to 6-year-olds through twelfth grade (12) for 17- to 19-year-olds, the first and last grades of free education in these countries, respectively. Also called ELHI, as a short for elementary to high school.

Usage

The term is often used in school website URLs, generally appearing before the country code top-level domain (or in the United States, the state top-level domain). The term "PK–12" is sometimes used to add pre-kindergarten.

It is also used by American multinationals selling into the educational sector, such as Dell where UK customers are presented with this as a market segment choice.

P–12

In Australia, P–12 is sometimes used in place of K–12, particularly in Queensland, where it is used as an official term in the curriculum framework. P–12 schools serve children for the thirteen years from prep until Year 12, without including the separate kindergarten component. In Canada (Nova Scotia) P–12 is used commonly in place of K–12 and serves students from grade Primary through 12.

K-51 (Kansas highway)

K-51 is a west-east state highway in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Kansas. It travels through portions of Morton, Stevens, and Seward counties.

Route description

K-51 begins at the Colorado state line, acting as a continuation of County Road M. The highway travels due east through fields. K-51 then turns north onto K-27, forming a 10 mile (16 km) long concurrency. K-27 leaves at Richfield. K-51 runs eastward for a few miles before heading south towards Rolla. In Rolla, US-56 is met, and K-51 turns east onto US-56, crossing into Stevens County. Both routes then pick up northbound K-25, with all three routes heading into Hugoton. In the city itself, US-56 and K-25 turn north, leaving K-51 to head east on its own. The route goes eastward, entering Seward County. K-51 comes to an end north of Liberal at US-83.

History

Until 1983, the portion of K-51 between Hugoton and U-83 was shared with a previous alignment of US-270.

U.S. Route 166

U.S. Route 166 (US 166) is a 164-mile (264 km) west–east United States highway. This route and US-266 are the only two remaining spurs of historic U.S. Route 66 (which was decommissioned in 1985), since US-666 was renumbered to US-491 in 2003.

US-166 meets the old route of US-66, now designated US-69 Alternate, in Baxter Springs in the southeast corner of Kansas.

Kansas

US 166 is a west–east highway that meanders about 164 miles (264 km) along the Kansas–Oklahoma state line. The highway's western terminus is in South Haven, Kansas at an intersection with US-81, approximately 1-mile (1.6 km) north of the northern terminus of US-177. US 166's eastern terminus is an intersection with I-44 just inside the Missouri state line, near the boundary where Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri meet, which is shared by Cherokee County, Ottawa County, and Newton County, respectively.

About 4 miles (6.4 km) east from its intersection with US-81, the highway intersects with the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) at exit 4. Continuing east about 60 miles (97 km), US-166 crosses the Arkansas River into Arkansas City, where it travels concurrent with US-77 for approximately 2 miles (3.2 km), splitting off near Parkerfield.
