Line 5 (Budapest Metro)

The North-south regional rapid railway is a railway construction plan in Budapest, modelled on the Paris RER or German S-Bahn systems. Its aim is to connect 3 suburban train lines of the BHÉV system, from the directions of Szentendre, Ráckeve and Csepel. The plan is also called Metro 5.

History

In the '90s, the growth of the suburbs was not accompanied by public transportation. Population growth was especially strong in Buda and in Csepel island region, but the HÉV lines end at the boundaries of the downtown area, where passengers have to change to go into the city. Hence the idea was born to connect the HÉV lines underground. Lord Mayor Gábor Demszky first spoke of plans in 2002.

In 2005 the city council set aside a first 100 million forint for the project. The council proposed to implement the investment between 2007 and 2010 with European Union funding, but this was rejected. In 2007 deputy mayor Miklós Hagyó stated the council wanted to begin construction of the railway, and in February 2008, the Urban and Suburban Transport Association (VEKE) designed a four track version of the metro line, now proposing to build the railway line from European Union sources between 2014 and 2020.

Sennichimae Line

The Sennichimae Line (千日前線, Sennichimae-sen) is an underground rapid transit line in Osaka, Japan. It is one of the lines of the Osaka Municipal Subway system operated by the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau. It links the northwestern district of Fukushima-ku and the southeastern district of Ikuno-ku with the central commercial and entertainment district of Namba. Its official name is Rapid Electric Tramway Line No. 5 (高速電気軌道第5号線), while the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau refers to it as Osaka City Rapid Railway Line No. 5 (大阪市高速鉄道第5号線), and in MLIT publications, it is written as Line No. 5 (Sennichimae Line) (5号線（千日前線）). Station numbers are indicated by the letter S.

Platform screen doors are located at all of the stations. The first station, Minami-Tatsumi, had them installed on March 14, 2014 and operation started in April. The final station, Nodahanshin, had them installed and operation started in December.

Enbridge Line 5

Enbridge Line 5 is a major oil pipeline in the Enbridge Lakehead System, which conveys petroleum from western Canada to eastern Canada via the Great Lakes states. Line 5 is particularly notable for passing under the environmentally sensitive Straits of Mackinac, which connect Lake Michigan to Lake Huron. As of December 2013, it is capable of carrying 540,000 barrels (86,000 m³) of oil per day. It carries synthetic crude, natural gas liquids, sweet crude, and light sour crude.

Route

The pipeline runs between two major nodes of the Enbridge Pipeline System at Superior, Wisconsin, and Sarnia, Ontario. The Enbridge terminal at Superior conveys western Canadian crude oil from various incoming pipelines (including lines 1–4) to Line 5 and Line 6, which go around the northern and southern shores of Lake Michigan respectively.

From Superior, Line 5 travels east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, then runs southeast to Rapid River, near Escanaba. At Rapid River, natural gas liquids (NGL) are side stream delivered for stripping, and the stripped NGLs are reinjected.
