Emerald Bay State Park

Emerald Bay State Park is a state park of California, USA, preserving Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark. Park features include Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion that is considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. The architect was Leonard Palme, who was hired by his aunt Laura Knight to design and build Vikingsholm. The park contains the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island. The park is accessible by California State Route 89 near the southwest shore of the lake. Emerald Bay is one of Lake Tahoe's most photographed and popular locations.

In 1969 Emerald Bay was recognized as a National Natural Landmark by the federal Department of the Interior. In 1994 California State Parks included the surrounding water of the bay as a part of the park, making Emerald Bay one of the first underwater parks of its type in the state, protecting the various wrecks and other items on the bay's bottom.

Emerald Cove

Emerald Cove (61°35′S 57°46′W / 61.583°S 57.767°W / -61.583; -57.767Coordinates: 61°35′S 57°46′W / 61.583°S 57.767°W / -61.583; -57.767) is a cove 2 nautical miles (4 km) wide, lying between North Foreland and Brimstone Peak on the north coast of King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands. The name "Shireff's Cove" (with one 'r') was given by William Smith in 1819, after Captain William H. Shirreff of the Royal Navy, to whom he reported his discovery of the South Shetland Islands. In 1820, Smith's description of his landing on North Foreland was confused with his description of features on northern Livingston Island, and the name was applied to a feature on that island, where it has been officially accepted. The name "Emerald Cove" was applied by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1960 and is for the brig Emerald (Captain John G. Scott) from Boston, MA, which visited the South Shetland Islands in 1820–21 in company with the Esther. These two vessels rescued the crew of the Venus from Esther Harbour in March 1821.
