Spoken is the sixth studio album released by the Christian hard rock band Spoken. The album was released on September 25, 2007. Radio singles released from this album include "When Hope Is All You Have" and "Trading in This Troubled Heart".

Critical reception

Awarding the album three and a half stars for CCM Magazine, Andy Argyrakis states, "[Spoken] continue[s] its fiery, hard-rock groundwork, while exploding with additional diversity and heavy-handed experimentation." Russ Breimeier, giving the album four stars at Christianity Today, writes, "The versatility in sound and style ultimately makes this album the best yet from Spoken—even if the first song isn't their strongest." Rating the album an eight out of ten from Cross Rhythms, Jeremy Williams describes, "a heavy album that knows when to pause for breath." Lindsay Wiseman, indicating in a four star review by Jesus Freak Hideout, says, "this album delivers in all aspects." Signaling in a review at The Phantom Tollbooth, Ryan Ro criticizes, "Spoken is yet another unnecessary addition to the Tooth & Nail catalogue, a faceless band in a sea of faceless bands, a clone of a clone of a clone. Spoken is a Christian rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, U.S., they have released four studio albums on Tooth & Nail Records and E1 Music.

Band history

Starting in 1996, Spoken quickly became a mainstay in their local music scene due to a relentless work ethic and performance schedule. Shortly after forming, Spoken was signed to their first record deal with Metro 1 Music, on which they released three albums and a greatest hits compilation. With the release of their first album, On Your Feet (1997), and continuing through their second record, …What Remains (1999), the Spoken sound was a combination of rap meets metal and a bit of melodic rock. The third full-length release, Echoes of the Spirit Still Dwell (2000) contained a heavier, more melodic approach to song writing, with songs like "Forevermore" and "This Path" generating repeated rotations on various modern rock radio and video programs across the country.

Spoken signed to Tooth & Nail Records to release their next album, titled A Moment of Imperfect Clarity. This, and their subsequent albums on Tooth and Nail, highlighted an evolving sound in which first melody and then a post-hardcore sound were introduced and stressed. Ember

An ember is a glowing, hot coal made of greatly heated wood, coal, or other carbon-based material that remain after, or sometimes precede, a fire. Embers can glow very hot, sometimes as hot as the fire which created them. They radiate a substantial amount of heat long after the fire has been extinguished, and if not taken care of properly can rekindle a fire that is thought to be completely extinguished and can pose a fire hazard. In order to avoid the danger of accidentally spreading a fire, many campers pour water on the embers or cover them in dirt. In comparison, embers can also be used to relight a fire after it has gone out without the need to rebuild the fire - In a conventional fireplace, a fire can easily be relit up to 12 hours after it goes out, provided that there is enough space for air to circulate between the embers and the introduced fuel.

They are often used for cooking, such as in charcoal barbecues. This is because embers radiate a more constant form of heat, as opposed to an open fire which is constantly changing along with the heat it radiates.

Spyro (series)

Spyro is a series of platform games which primarily features the protagonist Spyro the Dragon and his friend, Sparx the Dragonfly. Since its introduction in 1998, there has been a complete reboot to the series called The Legend of Spyro trilogy, making it a total of ten Spyro games and three Legend of Spyro games. The Spyro series has sold more than 20 million units worldwide. After The Legend of Spyro series concluded, a spin-off franchise under the name of Skylanders was made where Spyro and other related characters were included in.

Spyro the Dragon

Spyro the Dragon was first released in North America on 11 September 1998, for the PlayStation. It was released in Europe on 23 October 1998, In Australia on 15 November 1998 and in Japan on 1 April 1999. It is a platform game that placed the player as Spyro, a small, purple dragon set with the task of freeing his fellow dragons from crystal prisons, which are scattered around their world. Each level is accessed through 'portals' from a main world. The game concludes with a fight between Spyro and the primary antagonist, Gnasty Gnorc. The game sold well, most critics giving it favorable reviews. It also received acclaim for its musical score by Stewart Copeland.
