Elvis is a vi/ex clone, i.e. it resembles the Unix text editor "vi" very much but adds quite a few commands and features. Elvis is written by Steve Kirkendall and is distributed under the Clarified Artistic License which is used by Perl and is a GPL-compatible free software license.
Elvis is the version of vi that comes with Slackware, Frugalware, KateOS, and MINIX 3.
Elvis was the pioneering vi clone, widely admired in the 1990s for its conciseness, and many features. It influenced the development of Vim until about 1997.
It was the first to provide color syntax highlighting (and to generalize syntax highlighting to multiple file types), first to provide highlighted selections via keyboard.
Elvis's built-in nroff (early) and (later) html displays gave it unusual WYSIWYG features.
Elvis recognizes binary files, as well and provides a split screen for editing them.
jelvis, a Japanese variant, is available, based on work by Jun-ichiro itojun Hagino up until 1998. His more recent work in this area has been distributed as patches against nvi. A Korean variant helvis is also available, originally by Park Chong-Dae. These variants were modifications of elvis 1.8 (July 10, 1994). The nvi editor is based on an older version of elvis 1.5 (April 2, 1992).
A text editor is a type of program used for editing plain text files.
Text editors are provided with operating systems and software development packages, and can be used to change configuration files, documentation files and programming language source code.
There are important differences between plain text files created by a text editor and document files created by word processors such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect.
Elvis is a mononym of Elvis Presley (1935–1977), an American singer.

Elvis (NBC-TV Special) is the thirty-fourth album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor Records in mono, LPM 4088, in November 1968. Recording sessions took place in Burbank, California at Western Recorders on June 20, 21, 22 and 23, 1968, and at NBC Studios (Burbank) on June 27 and 29, 1968. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard 200. It was certified Gold on July 22, 1969 and Platinum on July 15, 1999 by the RIAA.
Prior to the videotaping of the Singer Christmas Special, a soundtrack album to be released before the December 3 broadcast was recorded. Several initial contract stipulations were obviated by Presley and program producer Steve Binder, notably the one against having a live audience present, but album producer Bones Howe was unable to requisition proper recording equipment, getting the sound feed from the single-channel microphones on the video cameras. Hence, the album was released in mono only, at a time when the recording industry was switching over to stereophonic records exclusively for both albums and singles.
Elvis is a 1979 American television biographical film directed by John Carpenter. It is based upon the life of Elvis Presley, and stars Kurt Russell in the title role. It stars Shelley Winters, Season Hubley, Bing Russell and Pat Hingle in supporting roles. Elvis originally aired on ABC.
Russell was nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance as Elvis. Also nominated for Emmy Awards were cinematographer Donald M. Morgan and make-up artist Marvin Westmore.
The story follows the life of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley. It ends in 1970, and does not depict the last few years of Presley's career. However, there is an example of incontinuity seeing as the last song Presley performs at his 1970 concert is American Trilogy a song he did not release, or include in any concerts, until 1972.
There is more than one version of this film: a version that starts with Presley's hair being cut when he was called up by the US army, and then death of his mother, with no scenes of his life before this, has been shown on TV in the UK. It runs for about two hours including commercials.
TEXT is the band founded by Kristofer Steen, David Sandström, Fredrik Bäckström and Jon F Brännström. All, except Bäckström, were ex-members of hardcore band Refused. Stylistically, they have little in common with Refused. Their debut album, Text, is a mix of spoken word, music of various styles, and ambient sound effects, often producing an ethereal, avant-garde sound. Apart from the three "Tableau" tracks (which are one piece, split up across the album), each track could be described as fitting into a different genre. In 2008, a second album, Vital Signs, was released. Yet again the style of music is far from Refused and the first Text album. Only Fredrik Bäckström and Jon F Brännström appear on this album.
The record came out on Demonbox Recordings in Sweden and on Buddyhead in America and the rest of the world. Text – "Text" was Buddyhead #4 and considered a building block in what is now a very successfully diverse indie-boutique-label run by music journalist Travis Keller. Text announced a US tour the year after the record was released on Buddyhead but due to conflicts with International Noise Conspiracy tours, it was cancelled.
