Elma Maua

Elma Ngatokoa Maua (12 November 1948 – 28 April 2010) was a Cook Islands-born New Zealand journalist and editor. Maua was one of New Zealand's first Pacific Islander journalists.

Maua was born in Rarotonga, Cook Islands in 1948, the youngest of six children. She moved with her family to Wellington, New Zealand, in 1952.

She worked as a journalist for Radio New Zealand and Niu FM. In 1999, Maua briefly returned to the Cook Islands, where she worked in the Prime Minister's office.

In 2010, her deteriorating health forced Maua to retire as the sports editor of Radio New Zealand International. She died on 28 April 2010, in Wellington, New Zealand, at the age of 61. She was survived by her five children.

Maua

Maua is a town in Meru County, Kenya. From 1992 to 2009, it was the capital of the now defunct Meru North District (also known as Nyambene district).

Overview

Maua is located 60 km North of Meru Town on the northwestern slopes of Nyambene Hills and west of Meru National Park. Meru. Maua hosts a municipal council and headquarters Igembe Central, one of 15 administrative divisions in the district. Maua municipality has a population of 40,820, of whom 9,763 are classified as urban . Maua town is the center of the Khat trade in Kenya. Income from khat exports to Europe were sharply cut when the UK declared the stimulant a class C drug and banned all imports in June, 2014. Unusual for a town its size Maua has a wide mix of ethnicities.

Maua (genus)

Maua is a genus of cicadas from Southeast Asia. The males possess two pairs of dark ventral abdominal tubercles on third and fourth sternites.

In 2000, Kos and Gogala expressed the opinion that it was likely that the Maua as it was then constructed was interlineated with the genus Purana as the criteria used by Distant in separating them were not reflective of the phylogenetic relations of the species included. In 2010, Lee and Hill redefined the Cicadini subtribe Leptopsaltriina Moulton, 1923, as well as a number of other relationships in the Asian Cicadidae, placing both Maua and Purana in Leptopsaltriina, along with several other genera.

Mauá, São Paulo

Mauá (IPA: [ma'wa]) is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, in Brazil. Is part of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The population as of 2006 is 413,943 inhabitants (11th largest city in population number of the state), the density is 6,645.4/km² and the area is 62.6 km². The density is in fact bigger, since one third of the city is occupied by industries and 10% is countryside or forest. Its name comes from the Tupi language and means the one that is high. As it's a municipality, it can also be translated as high city. However, back when the city was a small village, its name was Pilar, then the name was changed in 1934 into Mauá as a homage to Visconde de Mauá, entrepreneur which built the railway Santos-Jundiaí that passes through the city.

Mauá has the 23rd largest GDP of São Paulo state.

Is the birthplace of Brazilian tableware industry.

Economy

Although there are various types of economic activity in the city (Logistics, Metallurgy, Chemical and Electrical Materials, and Petrochemical), Maua is still remembered as the "Capital of China and Pottery", because this activity was very important for the development of the municipality. There are two industrial centers (Capuava and Sertãozinho) and a large petrochemical complex plant where the refinery of Petrobras is located, the RECAP. These poles transformed Mauá into one of the largest industrial parks in the country. Major road interventions are being implemented (the Mário Covas Beltway and the prolongation of the Avenue Jacu-Pêssego/Nova Trabalhadores), which, due to the improved access to the city should influence the growth of industrial activity, who nowadays suffers with the bottleneck of the road network and its chronic lack of maintenance.
