Egyptian (prophet)

The Egyptian was a messianic Jewish revolt leader.

Flavius Josephus says in his Jewish War (2.261-262) "There was an Egyptian false prophet that did the Jews more mischief than the former; for he was a cheat, and pretended to be a prophet also, and got together thirty thousand men that were deluded by him; these he led round about from the wilderness to the mount which was called the Mount of Olives. He was ready to break into Jerusalem by force from that place; and if he could but once conquer the Roman garrison and the people, he intended to rule them by the assistance of those guards of his that were to break into the city with him."

The commander (chiliarch) of the Roman garrison in Jerusalem, Claudius Lysias, makes mention of the Egyptian in Acts 21:38.

History

Prophet was founded in 1992 by Scott Galloway and Ian Chaplin, both graduates of the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business.

In 1998, Michael Dunn was named company president. Around the same time, author and consultant David Aaker began working with Prophet. Aaker currently serves as the company's vice chairman. Dunn was named Chief Executive Officer in 2000. He is currently the firm's Chairman and CEO. Prophet's annual revenue has grown to approximately $85 million with over 300 employees worldwide.

Prophet (Jerusalem album)

Prophet is the sixth studio album, and the tenth album overall, by the Swedish hard rock band Jerusalem. It was released simultaneously by Viva Records in Europe, R.E.X. Records in North America, and X ZERO Corporation in Japan.

Egyptian is an American indie rock duo band and the side project of married singers Dan Reynolds and Aja Volkman-Reynolds.

Formation

Invited to perform an opening set for Nico Vega, Dan Reynolds met Aja Volkman in 2010. He invited her to help him finish some demos he was working on. The two began a collaborative process which they titled Egyptian. They recorded, produced, and released independently a four track eponymous EP digitally. Their other bands Imagine Dragons and Nico Vega have also toured together in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

Slab serif

In typography, a slab serif (also called mechanistic, square serif, antique or Egyptian) typeface is a type of serif typeface characterized by thick, block-like serifs. Serif terminals may be either blunt and angular (Rockwell), or rounded (Courier). Slab serifs were invented in and most popular during the nineteenth century.

Slab serifs form a large and varied genre. Some such as Rockwell have a geometric design with minimal variation in stroke width: they are sometimes described as sans-serif fonts with added serifs. Others such as those of the Clarendon genre have a structure more like most other serif fonts, though with larger and more obvious serifs. These designs may have bracketed serifs which increase width along their length before merging with the main strokes of the letters, while on geometrics the serifs have a constant width.

Display-oriented slab serifs are often extremely bold, intended to grab the reader's attention on a poster, while slab serifs oriented towards legibility at small sizes show less extreme characteristics. Some fonts oriented towards small print use and printing on poor-quality newsprint paper may have slab serifs to increase legibility, while their other features are closer to conventional book type fonts.
