Eggo is a brand of frozen waffles in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which is owned by the Kellogg Company. Several varieties are available, including Homestyle, blueberry, and chocolate chip.

By mid-June 2009, Eggo had a 73% share of the frozen waffle market in the United States.[1]

Eggo waffles were invented in the 1930s in San Jose, California, by three brothers, Tony, Sam, and Frank Dorsa. In 1953, the Dorsa brothers introduced Eggo frozen waffles to supermarkets throughout the United States.[2] Frozen waffles do not require a waffle iron to prepare.

When the Dorsas first introduced the product it was called "Froffles," a portmanteau of frozen waffles. However people started referring to them as eggos due to their eggy taste. The name caught on and the brothers began using the moniker in marketing. Eventually the name became synonymous with the product and in 1955 the Dorsa brothers officially changed the name to "Eggo".

In the 1970s, as a means of diversification, the Kellogg Company purchased Eggo and Mrs. Smith's Pies.[3] Their advertising slogan—"L'eggo my Eggo"—is well known through their television commercials.[4]

2009 shortage [link]

In Fall of 2009, there was a shortage of some Eggo products due to several problems. Among these were a Listeria contamination which caused the Atlanta plant to be shut down for cleaning, severe flooding in the Atlanta area and equipment repairs at the Kellogg plant in Rossville, Tennessee.[5][6]

Eggo waffles now come in many different varieties such as thick and fluffy, French toaster sticks, whole grain, low fat, and many more.

Eggo Cereal is a breakfast cereal manufactured by Kellogg Company.

Eggo Cereal consisted of maple syrup, cinnamon toast, and flavoured corn cereal pieces in a waffle shape, just like Eggo waffles. It was considered a multigrain cereal that is lightly sweetened to taste accordingly to the Eggo waffles that it was created after. It was produced to have a light buttery and maple taste to it. It was specifically shaped to resemble miniature Eggo waffles. An average serving size of this cereal was about one cup. For every serving of this cereal, there were 120 calories and 12 grams of sugar. Eggo Cereal contained allergens such as wheat, corn product, and soy beans. For a while they were being endorsed with Adidas by allowing the customers to receive a T-shirt by sending in 8 Get Up & Go tokens that could be found on the Eggo Cereal box. It is claimed that there is no actual maple syrup within the maple syrup Eggo cereal ingredients.
