Aurora (1984 film)

Aurora is a 1984 Italian drama film directed by Maurizio Ponzi and starring Sophia Loren, Edoardo Ponti and Daniel J. Travanti. In order to raise money for an operation for her son, a woman tells various former wealthy lovers that they are his father. Its Italian title is Qualcosa di biondo.

Plot

A desperate woman (Loren), in crisis and poverty, is in search of the cruel husband (Noiret) who abandoned after giving her a son. The boy has now become almost an adult has a serious eye problem and is likely to become completely blind. The mother then choose to leave to go in search of his father, who in the meantime is starting a new life. When the mother finds out where he is, also learns that the cruel man has remade a family by marrying a young girl, who became the mother of a twenty-year-old son who has had the cruel man from another relationship.

Aurora (Lights Action song)

"Aurora" is the third single released by British quintet Lights.Action!. It was released 7 April, before their debut mini-album, All Eyes to the Morning Sun through iTunes and other major DSPs.

The song is based on a poem written by Patrick Currier, which is a letter to his imaginary future daughter, called Aurora, who is confronted with the end of the world. He imagines speaking to her and soothing her, despite the fact that the skies are filled with exploding bombs and the world is being torn apart. He tries to put it across that the explosions are just a lightshow for her, like the Northern Lights, her namesake.

Music video

The video was filmed in a field in Surrey on a cold night. The idea behind it is that the band are trying to put the sun back in the sky.

Reception

The album was received with mostly positive reviews. The song "To the Top" was chosen to be used in two major projects, the film Paper Towns (film) and the video game Tales From the Borderlands by Telltale Games.

Eclipse (Veil of Maya album)

Eclipse is the fourth album by extreme metal band Veil of Maya. It was released on February 28, 2012 and is the band's shortest album to date, clocking in at only 28 minutes. Eclipse was co-written and produced by Misha "Bulb" Mansoor, who is the guitarist of the Maryland-based metal band Periphery. It is the first record by the band to feature bassist Danny Hauser and the last with vocalist Brandon Butler.

Culture references

The song title "Winter Is Coming Soon" is a reference to the television series Game of Thrones.

The track "Punisher" has gained notoriety on the Internet due to a sample which was placed within the song at 2:03, of which is an excerpt of audio taken from a YouTube video of a young man criticizing djent and the band Periphery, in which album producer Misha Mansoor plays guitar.

Inspiration

A paragraph inside the physical version of the album talks about the inspiration of Eclipse. According to it, the band met a woman while touring in Italy who was blind throughout half of her life, and had her vision restored by staring directly into a solar eclipse. The paragraph goes on to say that "there is much more to the magnitude and magnificence of a solar eclipse than meets the eye." Guitarist Marc Okubo has also talked in a Guitar Messenger interview about this story as the underlying theme of the album.

Eclipse (Takemitsu)

Eclipse (Japanese: エクリプス) is a composition for shakuhachi and biwa by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. It was composed in 1966.

Composition

Before Takemitsu started to compose Eclipse, he was reticent to use Japanese traditional instruments, because, as he puts it, their sound "always recalled the bitter memories of war". He started to use these instruments in 1962 Masaki Kobayashi's Harakiri. Since this first collaboration, Takemitsu started using these instruments more often, as seen in Shinoda's Assassination and Masaki Kobayashi's Kwaidan. He finally composed Eclipse in 1966 and premiered it that same year with Kinshi Tsuruta at the biwa abd Katsuya Yokoyama at the shakuhachi. Kinshi Tsuruta, and the shakuhachi player, Katsuya Yokoyama. The premiere took place in the Nissei Theater, in Tokyo, on May 4, 1966. It was eventually published by Éditions Salabert and has received a catalogue number W43 by James Siddons.

When Seiji Ozawa played Leonard Bernstein a tape of Eclipse, Bernstein suggested combining the instruments in a composition with the western orchestra. From this recommendation, Takemitsu eventually composed November Steps, to which this composition is strongly associated. This composition was originally performed by the same biwa and shakuhachi performers and, therefore, Eclipse is regarded as a forerunner to November Steps.
