Eat It

"Eat It" is a 1984 song by comedy music artist "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a parody of "Beat It" by Michael Jackson. The track was both a commercial and critical success, earning Yankovic a Grammy Award.

According to Yankovic, when he presented his lyrics to Jackson for review, he didn't know what kind of reaction he'd get. Jackson allegedly thought it was amusing, and agreed to allow the parody. On October 19, 1989, the RIAA certified "Eat It" as a gold single.

Reception

The single reached number 1 in Australia, and it was his highest-charting U.S. single on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 12 until "White & Nerdy" peaked at number 9 in October 2006. "Eat It" earned Yankovic a 1984 Grammy Award in the Best Comedy Recording category. "Eat It" also outranked "Beat It" in overall highest position on the Australian Aria Charts, with its highest rank being number 1, while "Beat It"'s highest is 3rd. As stated before, the RIAA certified "Eat It" as a gold single on October 19, 1989. On the U.S. Cash Box Top 100, "Eat It" spent two weeks at number four, and was the 44th biggest hit of 1984.

Eat It (Humble Pie album)

Eat It is the sixth album by English rock group Humble Pie, released in 1973. A double album, it reached #13 on the Billboard 200, and #34 in the UK.

Background

Steve Marriott had been talking to the group about having backing singers from early on. During the recording of Eat It Steve Marriott had been in touch with Venetta Fields and asked her to find two other girls to help her out. Fields chose Clydie King and Sherlie Matthews (Both previously with Raeletts) to become the blackberries and flew to London. When Marriott asked them to perform on tour with Humble Pie Sherlie Matthews declined due to other commitments such as her two children and her husband. Matthews chose Billie Barnum to be missing member of the Blackberries.

Each side of this double album is different: Side 1 features Steve Marriott penned rock and roll; Side 2 has classic R&B covers; Side 3 is a collection of acoustic Steve Marriott songs; finally Side 4 features Humble Pie live in concert.
