EB Games

EB Games (formerly known as Electronics Boutique and EB World) is an American computer and video games retailer. First established as an American company in 1977 by James Kim with a single electronics-focused location in the King of Prussia Mall near Philadelphia, the company has grown into an international corporation. EB Games's parent corporation, GameStop, has its headquarters in Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. When Electronics Boutique was an independent company, its headquarters was in West Goshen Township, Pennsylvania, near West Chester.

History

Originally, the operation mainly sold calculators and digital watches. Between 1977 and the mid-1990s, the company expanded to (and later stopped) selling computers, software, and other related items (according to the EB Games employee handbook). Electronics Boutique also operated stores under the name Games 'n Gadgets. The Games 'n Gadgets stores were themed more on entertainment and gaming, rather than business and productivity. In the mid-1990s, the company's focus switched to TV-based video games and consoles, though many stores still maintain PC game sections.

EB Games Australia

EB Games Australia (originally Electronics Boutique) is an Australian video game and entertainment software retailer. Headquartered in Eagle Farm, Queensland (a suburb of Brisbane), the company operates over 380 stores across Australia's six states and two territories and 40 more stores in New Zealand. EB Games Australia is part of GameStop. EB Games sells video games, consoles, and accessories for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, Wii U, PC, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo 3DS. Customers can also purchase games online from the EB games website.

History

The first Australian store was opened on 5 July 1997 in Westfield Shoppingtown Miranda, New South Wales, with stores opening near-concurrently at Westfield Group Tuggerah, New South Wales and in the Old Charlestown Square complex.

The 100 and 1100 series stores all had the same layouts and finishes respective to store sizes. The 200 series stores have a similar finish on fixtures and counters but is a slightly darker blue. These stores all carried the EB Games logo on the front counters.
