Dyleň

Dyleň (German: Tillenberg) is a mountain in the Karlovy Vary Region of western Bohemia, located roughly 100 metres (330 ft) from the Czech Republic–Germany border. At 939 metres (3,081 ft) above sea level, its summit is the second highest peak in the Upper Palatinate Range (Bavarian–Bohemian Forest).

Local tradition holds that Napoleon Bonaparte declared Tillenberg the geographical center of Europe in 1813.

The German name lent itself to the title of the epic poem Der Tillenberg: Ein Sagenschatz aus dem Egerlande (A Treasure-tale from the Egerland) published in 1904 by Ernst Freimut (pseudonym of Johann (Hans) Sommert).

On its summit is a set of prominent buildings. These were used by the Soviet Union for electronic espionage into Germany during the Cold War.

Dyle was a département of the First French Empire in present Belgium. It was named after the river Dijle, which flows through the département. Its territory corresponds more or less with that of the Belgian province of Brabant, now divided into Walloon Brabant, Flemish Brabant and Brussels-Capital Region. Its capital was Brussels.

The département came into existence on 1 October 1795, after the Southern Netherlands were occupied by the French. The département de la Dyle was formed from the southern part of the Duchy of Brabant, part of the County of Hainaut, (Halle) and some smaller territories. See the 130 départements of the Napoleonic Empire.

The département was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons (situation in 1812):

  • Brussels, cantons: Anderlecht, Asse, Brussels (4 cantons), Halle, La Hulpe, Sint-Martens-Lennik, Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Uccle, Vilvoorde and Wolvertem.
  • Leuven, cantons: Aarschot, Diest, Glabbeek, Grez, Haacht, Leuven (2 cantons), Tienen (2 cantons) and Zoutleeuw.

    Cold And Ugly

    by: Tool

    Underneath her skin and jewelry,
hidden in her words and eyes
is a wall that's cold and ugly
    and she's scared as hell.
Trembling at the thought of feeling.
    Wide awake and keeping distance.
    Nothing seems to penetrate her.
    She's scared as hell.
    I am frightened to.
    Wide awake
and keeping distance from my soul.
