Duke Krok

Duke Krok is a legendary figure in Czech history, being the first judge, or duke, of the Czech people. He was also the father of Princess Libuše and her sisters Kazi and Teta.

The Cosmas Chronicle

Perhaps the earliest mention of the Duke (as "Crocco") is in the Chronica Boëmorum, which was originally written in Latin. After Cosmas describes the manner of the first inhabitants of Bohemia, whom at first lived very simply, did not know alcohol, marriages, private property or weapons. After a time, however, they then began to flourish injustice and envy. And, according to Cosmas, the people had "neither the judge nor the prince". So, Krok rose amongst the people, who was described by Cosmas as "a man known for his age, absolutely perfect, rich and worldly in his judgements, and sophisticated. This wonderful man had no male heirs, but rather three daughters, whom nature had granted the treasures of wisdom".

However, this is the last Cosmas says of Krok, except to describe his daughters and their own exploits. Later chroniclers would expand upon this, for example, Václav Hájek of Libočan, who writes about the death of Forefather Cech. He writes that when Cech died he tried to pass the leading the Czech people to his brother Lech, who refused, and recommended Krok in his place.

Narrow gauge engines (Thomas & Friends)

In Thomas & Friends, the Island of Sodor is home to a narrow gauge railway in the hills. These lines and the engines who work on them are some of the oldest on the island. The narrow gauge railway has some contact with The Fat Controller's standard gauge engines, but the location of the railway leaves the little engines in relative isolation.

Victor

Victor is a dark red Hispanic tank engine in charge of the Sodor Steamworks. He supervises all the engines who journey in and out of the workshops, as well as Kevin, the clumsy yard crane. Victor always has a helpful, constructive disposition and is good-humored with everyone he meets. He speaks with a Cuban accent and spoke Spanish when he first came to Sodor.

Victor was introduced in the feature-length special Hero of the Rails. The show's staff were researching real-life engine workshops as inspiration for the Steamworks when they learned that one had a self-contained narrow-gauge line, used to transport parts internally. The staff decided they wanted an engine with a cab, and chose as a prototype ALCo's #1173, which was specially built for a sugar plantation line in Cuba. Some artistic licence was taken, as the original #1173 is a standard gauge locomotive. Victor made multiple further appearances in the thirteenth series, and has appeared in every series and special since.

Duke (Cambridge Town Club cricketer)

Duke (first name and details of birth and death unknown) was an English cricketer with possibly professional status who was active in 1831. He made his first-class debut in 1831 and appeared in one match as an unknown handedness batsman whose bowling style is unknown, playing for Cambridge Town Club (CTC). He scored four runs with a highest score of 4 and took no wickets.

KROK (95.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an Adult Album Alternative music format. Licensed to South Fort Polk, Louisiana, USA, the station serves the area surrounding Fort Polk and Vernon parish and surrounding areas. The station is currently owned by West Central Broadcasting

The station is one of only four Adult Album Alternative stations in Louisiana. The other three are University run KSLU in Hammond KYMK in Maurice and WXDR-LP in New Orleans.
