Dry goods

In Commonwealth countries, the term dry goods is used to refer to dry food with historical reference to pre-refrigeration days and the early 20th century, regarding foods which could be transported and stored without immediate danger of spoiling. Dried beans, flours, whole grains and rolled oats are examples of "dry goods."

In the United States, dry goods are products such as textiles, ready-to-wear clothing, and sundries. In U.S. retailing, a dry-goods store carries consumer goods that are distinct from those carried by hardware stores and grocery stores.

Dry goods as a term for textiles has been dated back to 1742 in England or even a century earlier. Dry goods can be carried by stores specializing only in those products (a type of specialty store), or may be carried by a general store or a department store.

Beginning in the early 20th century, as many dry goods stores expanded into other lines of merchandise, the term "dry goods" largely disappeared from everyday usage, and from the official names of the businesses concerned.

Dry is a 2014 Nigerian drama film directed by Stephanie Linus and starring Stephanie Okereke, Liz Benson, William McNamara, Darwin Shaw and Paul Sambo. On 20 July 2013, a teaser trailer for the film was released, in response to the Child marriage controversy ongoing in Nigeria at the time.

The film's theme focuses on Vesicovaginal fistula condition and underaged marriage among young women, narrating the story of a thirteen-year-old girl, Halima (Zubaida Ibrahim Fagge), whose poor uneducated parents marry her off to Sani (Tijjani Faraga), a 60-year-old man, who constantly rapes her. Halima gets pregnant and suffers Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) after child delivery; she's consequently abandoned by her husband and discriminated against in the society. Zara (Stephanie Okereke), a medical doctor who also suffered a horrific childhood meets Halima; she tries to help her get through her situation and also save other young women under such circumstance.

  • Dryness (taste)

Dryness is a property of alcoholic beverages that describes the lack of a sweet taste. This may be due to a lack of sugars, the presence of some other taste that masks sweetness, or an underabundance of simple carbohydrates that can be converted to sugar by enzymes in the mouth (amylase in particular). The term "dry" may be applied to types of beer, wine, distilled spirits, or any other form of alcoholic beverage.

Contrary to popular belief, in a dry martini "dry" refers to the type of vermouth used, sweet or dry, not the amount of vermouth used in the drink. A dry martini refers to a martini made with dry vermouth and dry gin. A "perfect" martini—or any other cocktail that uses vermouth, such as a Perfect Manhattan—refers to a martini made with equal parts dry and sweet vermouth.

  • Good (economics)

In economics, a good is a material that satisfies human wants and provides utility, for example, to a consumer making a purchase. A common distinction is made between 'goods' that are tangible property (also called goods) and services, which are non-physical.Commodities may be used as a synonym for economic goods but often refer to marketable raw materials and primary products.

Although in economic theory all goods are considered tangible, in reality certain classes of goods, such as information, only take intangible forms. For example, among other goods an apple is a tangible object, while news belongs to an intangible class of goods and can be perceived only by means of an instrument such as print, broadcast or computer.

    Utility characteristics of goods

Goods may increase or decrease their utility directly or indirectly and may be described as having marginal utility. Some things are useful, but not scarce enough to have monetary value, such as the Earth's atmosphere, these are referred to as 'free goods'.

    Goods (album)

It was co-produced by Christoffer Lundquist and recorded in his own studio, Aerosol Grey Machine Studios. Magnason wrote the music, sang and played piano and keyboards. The other musicians on the album are Tomas Ebrelius (violin, viola), Fredrik Myhr (drums), Martin Eriksson (double bass), Fredrik Stenberg (clarinet, bass clarinet) och Christoffer Lundquist (guitar, bass, percussion).

Magnason designed the cover and made all the illustrations in the CD booklet.

    Dry Kids

    by: Embrace

    We're dry kids
    There's nothing you've got I want
    Are you gonna leave?
So you keep it locked in
We murder each other each day
    Knowing we'd never be
    Crow barred apart
And we try for so long
    To reach eleven
On a scale of one to ten
But we never get so far
    I'm done
    You're out of my system
    Learning how to live
    With how it feels
And we try for so long
    To reach eleven
On a scale of one to ten
But we never get so far
    Me and you should have
    Never left the start
    Me and you should have
