A drive-by shooting is a type of assault that typically involves the perpetrator firing a weapon from within a motor vehicle and then fleeing. Such shootings are often associated with gang violence in urban areas of the United States but also occur in other contexts. The tactic is also known in the media as simply a "drive-by". The primary motivations for a gang-involved drive-by include intimidation, terrorization, and assassination of rival street gang members.Numerous hip-hop artists have been targeted in drive-bys; prominent rappers who were killed in such incidents include Tupac Shakur,The Notorious B.I.G., and Mac Dre.

Pony Down (Prelude) is the debut EP by American hip hop duo Drive-By, which consists of Anybody Killa and Blaze Ya Dead Homie. It was reissued in 2008 with two bonus tracks: "Yellow Tape" and "By My Side".
It's a random kind of thing
Came upon a delicate flower
I can't believe
a machine gun sings
Driveby, driveby,
driveby, driveby
Well he borrowed
his girlfiend's car
Went out riding with the boys
Now she's gone
like a shooting star
Driveby, driveby,
driveby, driveby
Now she's gone
like a shooting star
Trail of dreams
tragic trail of fire
Now she's gone
like a shooting star
Driveby, driveby,
driveby, driveby
Well you feel invincible
It's just a part of life
There's a feud going on
and you don't know
Driveby, driveby,
