Sharon

Sharon (Hebrew: שָׁרוֹן, Tiberian Hebrew: Šārôn) is a female name that can be spelled with one "r" or two (Sharron).

In some countries (like Israel), Sharon is a unisex name. It derives from the name the Israelite place name Sharon plain, referring to a fertile plain near the coast of Israel. This gives its name to a type of flowering shrub, the rose of Sharon. Sharon is one of many names that could formerly be applied to males (as in the 19th-century historian Sharon Turner), but is now nearly always used of females (cf. Vivian, Ashley, Beverly, etc.).

It began being used as a female name sometime in the early part of the 20th century, first being listed as one of the 1000 most popular names for females born in the United States in 1925. By the mid-1940s, it had become an extremely popular name for newborn American girls, remaining a top 10 name for most of the decade, peaking at #8 in both 1943 and 1945. Its popularity began to steadily decline thereafter; the name fell out of the top 100 after 1977, and out of the top 500 after 2001.

Diospyros kaki

Diospyros kaki is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Diospyros. Although its first published botanical description was not until 1780, the kaki is among the oldest plants in cultivation, known for its use in China for more than 2000 years. In some rural Chinese communities, the kaki fruit is seen as having a great mystical power that can be harnessed to solve headaches, back pains and foot ache.

The persimmon (kaki) is a sweet, slightly tangy fruit with a soft to occasionally fibrous texture. This species, native to China, is deciduous, with broad, stiff leaves. Cultivation extended first to other parts of East Asia and was later introduced to California and southern Europe in the 19th century, to Brazil in the 1890s, and numerous cultivars have been selected. A variety is Diospyros kaki var. sylvestris Makino. When ripe, this fruit comprises thick pulpy jelly encased in a waxy thin-skinned shell.

In many cultivars, known as the astringent varieties, the fruit has a high proanthocyanidin-type tannin content which makes the immature fruit astringent and bitter. The tannin levels are reduced as the fruit matures. It is not edible in its crisp, firm state; it tastes best when allowed to rest and soften after harvest. It has a soft jelly-like consistency and is best eaten with a spoon. The Japanese 'Hachiya' is a widely grown astringent cultivar. Other cultivars, such as Fuyu, do not contain tannins when firm. They can be eaten like an apple or can be allowed to go to any stage of ripeness, including to the jelly-like stage. These non-astringent varieties are considered to have a less complex flavor.

Sharon (Doctor Who)

Sharon (last name not given) is a fictional character who appeared in the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. She was a companion of the Fourth Doctor. Sharon was introduced in Doctor Who and the Star Beast, which ran in issues #19-#26 of Doctor Who Weekly (as it then was), written by Pat Mills and John Wagner, and drawn by Dave Gibbons. She was a secondary school student living in the city of Blackcastle, England. She was the first non-white companion, albeit not on television.

Character history

One night, a spacecraft crash-landed in Blackcastle, bringing with it the intergalactic tyrant Beep the Meep. The Meep was fleeing the galactic law enforcers called the Wrarth, but he used his appearance as a cute, furry alien to gain Sharon's sympathy. Sharon sheltered Beep for a time, and it was while doing this that she met the Doctor. Beep's ruse was eventually uncovered and he was handed over to the Wrarth, and the Doctor prepared to take Sharon back to Earth.

Dreaming (Aurora song)

"Dreaming" is a single by Aurora with vocals by Lizzy Pattinson. It reached number 24 on the UK Singles Chart in 2002.

Music video

There were two video versions for the single. One features Lizzy on a charter bus and singing with an acoustic band.

The other version features Lizzy in a room with mahogany flooring and ceiling. She is singing with a band.

BT (musician)

Brian Wayne Transeau (born October 4, 1970), better known by his stage name BT, is an American music producer, composer, technologist, audio technician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. An artist in the electronica music genre, he is credited as a pioneer of the trance and intelligent dance music styles that paved the way for EDM, and for "stretching electronic music to its technical breaking point." He also creates music within many other styles, such as classical, film composition and bass music.

BT is also known for pioneering the stutter edit. This production technique consists of taking a small fragment of sound and repeating it rhythmically. BT was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for his song "Somnambulist (Simply Being Loved)", recognized as using the largest number of vocal edits in a song (6,178 edits). BT's work with stutter edit techniques led to the formation of software development company Sonik Architects, developer of the sound-processing software plug-ins Stutter Edit and BreakTweaker, and the live audio and visual remix app called Sonifi.

Dreaming (Scribe song)

"Dreaming" is the third single from Scribe's debut album, The Crusader. In New Zealand, it was released as a double A-side with "So Nice". Lyrically, the song is about Scribe's childhood aspirations. It had commercial success in New Zealand and Australia, appearing on the singles charts of both countries, and topping the latter.

"Dreaming" was included on Pasifika - The Collection, compiled by the managers of the Pasifika Festival. The compilation album debuted at number one on the New Zealand Music Compilations Chart.

Background

According to Russell Baillie from The New Zealand Herald, the production of "Dreaming" by P-Money gives the song "a mix of askew soul-sweetness". "Dreaming" is about Scribe's childhood ambitions, which gives it an "autobiographical out-from-under theme...without sounding cliched or tryhard".

Music video

The music video for "Dreaming" was directed by Chris Graham. Funding was provided by New Zealand On Air. It opens with shots of clouds moving across the sky in a time-lapse style, followed by Scribe writing a song, and later recording it. He then raps with friends in an urban area. The video is interspersed with childhood pictures of Scribe and others.
