Dreamer (Supertramp song)

"Dreamer" is a hit single from Supertramp's 1974 album Crime of the Century. It peaked at number 13 on the UK singles chart in February 1975. In 1980, it appeared on their live album Paris. This live version was also released as a single and hit number 15 on the US charts, number 36 in the Dutch Top 40, and number 1 on the Canadian Singles Chart.

Background

"Dreamer" was composed by Roger Hodgson on his Wurlitzer piano at his mother's house when he was 19 years old. At that time he recorded a demo of the song using vocals, Wurlitzer, and banging cardboard boxes for percussion. Hodgson recalled, "I was excited – it was the first time I laid hands on a Wurlitzer." Supertramp cut their own recording of the song in imitation of this early demo.

The band performed the song on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test show in 1974, during which John Helliwell can be seen playing the rim of a wine glass on top of his keyboard to achieve a certain sound effect.

The song was used in the films The Parole Officer, Wild Thing and The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, as well as its trailer.

Dreamer (Europe song)

"Dreamer" is a 1984 power ballad by the Swedish heavy metal band Europe. It was the second single from the Wings of Tomorrow album. The single was only released in Japan. It bears a strong resemblance to the hit single "Carrie" that was released two years later. This song is referenced in the song "Time Has Come" off the band's next album The Final Countdown in the lyric, "Pray for the dreamer/He's still so sad." In 1993 the song was included on their greatest hits compilation 1982–1992.

Dreamer (Ozzy Osbourne song)

"Dreamer" is the third track from Ozzy Osbourne's album Down to Earth, which was released on October 16, 2001. The single peaked at number 10 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks. The song describes the rockstar's vision of a better world for his children, where they are happy and safe. The song itself is thematically and musically similar to Lennon's "Imagine". In the liner notes to Osbourne's Prince of Darkness box set, Ozzy refers to this song as his "Imagine". Ozzy has named John Lennon many times as his hero. A second video was also produced, featuring highlights from "The Osbournes". The Japanese and European press of the single also include a slightly different version of the song Dreamer, dubbed on the single "Dreamer (acoustic)", and a previously unreleased song titled "Black Skies".

Stargate SG-1 (season 8)

Season eight of Stargate SG-1, an American-Canadian military science fiction television series, began airing on July 9, 2004 on the Sci Fi channel. The eighth season concluded on February 22, 2005, after 20 episodes on British Sky One, which overtook the Sci Fi Channel in mid-season. This was the first season of the show to have 20 episodes instead of 22, as well as the first to air concurrently with Stargate SG-1 spinoff series Stargate Atlantis (the first season thereof). The series was originally developed by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, while Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper served as executive producers. Season eight regular cast members include Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Michael Shanks. The eighth season begins with the SG-1 team trying to revive Colonel Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) after the events of the seventh season. At the end of the two-episode season opener, Colonel O'Neill is promoted to General and assumes command of Stargate Command (SGC), while Major Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) is promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and assumes command of SG-1. The season arc centers on the growing threat and seemingly final defeat of the Goa'uld and the Replicators, races who were introduced in the first and third season of the show, respectively.

Icon is an American heavy metal/glam metal band that formed in 1979, disbanding in 1990. Icon has fully reformed as of 2008, currently consisting of three-fifths of the classic lineup: Dan Wexler (guitar), Stephen Clifford (lead vocals), and John Aquilino (guitar), along with Dave Henzerling (bass) and Gary Bruzzese (drums).

History

Formation

Originally known as The Schoolboys in 1979 (maybe earlier), Icon was formed in 1981, in Phoenix, Arizona by high school friends Dan Wexler (guitar), Stephen Clifford (lead vocals) and Tracy Wallach (bass). They were joined by Dave Henzerling (guitar) and John Covington (drums). Schoolboys released an EP Singin' Shoutin' and had a few songs on compilation albums. In 1984, Icon was signed to Capitol Records. By this point, Henzerling and Covington had left the band and were replaced by John Aquilino (guitar) and Pat Dixon (drums).

Background

In 1984, Icon released their self-titled debut, Icon and toured heavily to support it. The tour set list featured quite a few new songs intended for the next album as well as a few Deep Purple ("Highway Star") and Judas Priest covers. In 1985, Night of the Crime was released, produced by Eddie Kramer, mixed by Ron Nevison and featuring the songwriting talent of Bob Halligan Jr.. During the mixing of the album, vocalist Stephen Clifford decided to leave the band for personal reasons. Regrouping, the band tried out a few different vocalists, lost their record deal and released a local-only cassette called A More Perfect Union, featuring a polished pop-rock sound, a new singer (Jerry Harrison) and a keyboardist (Kevin Stoller). Although it was only released locally, it garnered enough attention to renew major-label interest in the group.
