Dream Away (George Harrison song)

"Dream Away" is a song appearing on George Harrison's 1982 album Gone Troppo, and released as a single in Japan. The song was featured over the end credits of Harrison's 1981 HandMade Films production Time Bandits, which was director Terry Gilliam's first successful solo movie apart from Monty Python. Aside from the film's orchestral score, this was the only song featured in Time Bandits, and was written specifically for it.

Background and release

"Dream Away" was to originally appear on the announced Time Bandits soundtrack album. However, when that failed to materialise and Harrison was finalising the tracks for his Gone Troppo album, he decided to include "Dream Away". Although the Gone Troppo album was a commercial failure, "Dream Away" became a popular tune.

Subsequent history

In 2010, AOL Radio listeners chose "Dream Away" as one of the "10 Best George Harrison Songs", appearing at number 8 on the list.

"Dream Away" is a song recorded by Babyface and Lisa Stansfield for the 1994 soundtrack to the animated film, The Pagemaster. It was written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster.

The song received positive reviews from music critics. "Dream Away" was released as a single in the United States on 7 November 1994 and reached number nine on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles and number eighty on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. "Dream Away" was also issued in selected European countries and Australia, and on 21 January 1995 it was released in Japan. The song was remixed by Dave Way, Paul Waller and Ollie Marland. The music video, directed by Randee St. Nicholas, featured Babyface, Stansfield and fragments from the film. In 2003, "Dream Away" was included on the remastered edition of Stansfield's album, So Natural.

Length overall

Length overall, often abbreviated as (LOA, o/a, o.a. or oa) is the maximum length of a vessel's hull measured parallel to the waterline. This length is important while docking of the ship. It is the most commonly used way of expressing the size of a boat, and is also used for calculating the cost of a marina berth (for example, £2.50 per metre LOA).

LOA is usually measured on the hull alone. For sailing ships, this may exclude the bowsprit and other fittings added to the hull. This is how some racing boats and tall ships use the term LOA. However, other sources may include bowsprits in LOA. Confusingly, LOA has different meanings. "Sparred length", "Total length including bowsprit", "Mooring length" and "LOA including bowsprit" are other expressions that might indicate the full length of a sailing ship.

Often used to distinguish between the length of a vessel including projections (e.g. bow sprits, etc.) from the length of the hull itself, the Length on Deck or LOD is often reported. This is especially useful for smaller sailing vessels, as their LOA can be significantly different from their LOD.
