Dove Cameron

Dove Olivia Cameron (born Chloe Celeste Hosterman; January 15, 1996) is an American actress and singer. She is known for playing a dual role as both title characters in the Disney Channel sitcom Liv and Maddie. She also starred in the Disney Channel original movies Cloud 9 as Kayla Morgan, and Descendants as Mal, daughter of Maleficent.

Early life

Cameron was born in Seattle, Washington as Chloe Celeste Hosterman. She is the daughter of Philip Alan Hosterman and Bonnie Wallace, who later divorced, and has an older sister, Claire Hosterman. She grew up in Bainbridge Island, Washington. When she was a child, she attended Sakai Intermediate School. At the age of eight, she began acting in community theater at Bainbridge Performing Arts. When she was 14, her family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she sang in Burbank High School's National Championship Show Choir.

Cameron is part French and is a fluent speaker of the language, having spent many years of her life growing up in France. She has stated she was bullied through her entire school experience, starting in fifth grade, through the end of high school. Regardless of the pressure at school and fitting in, she stayed focused on her dreams of becoming successful in entertainment: "I became very passionate about [becoming an actress and singer]. I fully immersed myself." Her father died in 2011 when she was 15 years old.

Cameron is a given name in the English language. It is a very popular male name in North America, Europe, and Australia. Cameron is ranked as a top 50 name for boys in Scotland, Canada, England, and the United States.

The name originates from the Scottish surname Cameron. In the Scottish Highlands the surname is thought to be derived from the Gaelic cam sròn, meaning "crooked nose" or "crooked river"; in the Scottish Lowlands the name is thought to be derived from a form of Norman baronial name—from Cambernon, in Normandy.

A variant spelling of the given name is Camron. Modern variants of the name are Kameron, and Kamron. Camryn is a common female variant. A shortened form of the given name Cameron is Cam.

    Dove (steamboat)

The steamboat Dove operated in the late 1890s and early 1900s as part of the Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet and also for a time on Grays Harbor. She was later converted into a tug. The Dove (ex-Typhoon) should not be confused with the Virginia III (ex-Typhoon).

    Construction

Dove was originally built in 1889 in Portland, Oregon for ferry service under J.B. Montgomery, and launched under the name Typhoon.

    Operations

In 1891, J.B. Montgomery sold Typhoon to George Emerson at Grays Harbor, who in turn sold the vessel a short time later to C.O. Lorenz, who brought her to Puget Sound and placed her on the Tacoma-Henderson Bay route. In 1903, she was acquired by Matthew McDowell, who rebuilt the vessel and placed her on the Seattle-Tacoma-East Pass route under the name Dove.

    Later operations

In about 1916, McDowell sold Dove to Washington Tug & Barge Co. of Seattle, and Dove thereafter served as a tug.

    Dove (surname)

The surname Dove has several origins. In some cases the surname is derived from the Middle English dove ("dove"), which is in turn derived from the Old English dūfe ("dove"), or possibly sometimes the Old Norse dúfa ("dove"). In this way, this surname originated as a nickname for a gentle person, or an occupational name for a person who worked with doves. In some cases, the surname Dove originated from the fact that the Middle English word was also used as a masculine and feminine personal name.

The surname Dove is also sometimes an Anglicised form of the Scottish Gaelic MacCalmáin. The surname Dove is also sometimes a variant spelling of the surname Duff (a surname multiple etymological origins). The surname Dove is also sometimes derived from the Middle Low German dōf, and originated as a nickname for a deaf man.
