Doug Walton

Douglas Neil Walton (PhD University of Toronto, 1972) is a Canadian academic and author, well known for his many widely published books and papers on argumentation, logical fallacies and informal logic. He is presently Distinguished Research Fellow of the Centre for Research in Reasoning, Argumentation and Rhetoric (CRRAR) at the University of Windsor, Canada, and before that (2008-2014), he held the Assumption Chair of Argumentation Studies at the University of Windsor. Walton’s work has been used to better prepare legal arguments and to help develop artificial intelligence. His books have been translated worldwide, and he attracts students from many countries to study with him. A special issue of the journal Informal Logic surveyed Walton’s contributions to informal logic and argumentation theory up to 2006 (Informal Logic, 27(3), 2007). A festschrift honoring his contributions, Dialectics, Dialogue and Argumentation: An Examination of Douglas Walton’s Theories of Reasoning and Argument, ed. C. Reed and C. W. Tindale, London: College Publications, 2010, shows how his theories are increasingly finding applications in computer science. A list of titles of many of Walton’s books is given below. Doug Walton (rugby league)

Douglas "Doug"/"Dougie" Walton (circa-1946 — 25 May 2012) was an English miner and professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s and '70s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and Yorkshire, and at club level for Castleford, as a prop, or loose forward/lock, i.e. number 8 or 10, or 13, during the era of contested scrums.

Doug Walton won a cap for Great Britain while at Castleford playing loose forward/lock in the 17-7 victory over France at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 23 January 1965.

County honours

Doug Walton won a cap for Yorkshire while at Castleford playing Left-prop in the 17-23 defeat by Lancashire at Widnes stadium on Wednesday 24 January 1968.

Doug Walton played in Castleford's victory in the Yorkshire League during the 1964–65 season.

BBC2 Floodlit Trophy final appearances

Doug Walton played Right-prop, i.e. number 10, in Castleford's 8-5 victory over Leigh in the 1967 BBC2 Floodlit Trophy final during the 1967–68 season at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 16 January 1968.
