Doug Walker is a Manchester-based singer-songwriter. After years of getting nowhere with his musical career, his planned self-released debut single, "The Mystery" was played by BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles after Walker turned up outside the Radio 1 studio on 28 August 2007 at 5.30am. He gave a copy of the recording to Moyles as he arrived for work. It was played at 7.20am, and the radio station was inundated with emails and SMS texts, resulting in Moyles playing the song seven more times that week. As a result Walker met with eleven record labels and signed with Warner Bros. Records on 12 October 2007.
Walker's debut album was produced by Danton Supple who was responsible for X&Y by Coldplay and Silence Is Easy by Starsailor. After recording, Walker flew to New York to mix his album with Michael Brauer, and had completed his album nine weeks to the day from when he signed his recording contract with Warner Bros. Records.
At the end of 2007 Walker was featured in Q magazine, The Guardian, The Sun, The Mirror, The Daily Star and The Red Pages - each publication tipping him for success in 2008.
Nostalgia Critic is an American comedy webseries created, written, edited, directed and performed by Doug Walker. The series initially launched on YouTube in July 2007 before moving to Walker's own site That Guy with the Glasses, then to Channel Awesome. The show follows Walker as the titular Nostalgia Critic, a bitter and sarcastic film critic who reviews films and television shows from his childhood and recent past, usually with comically exaggerated rage. The show often alternates the Critic's angry rants and juvenile humor with legitimate analysis of the episode's subject.
Walker briefly retired the series in August 2012 to work on other projects, even writing the character out of existence in the Channel Awesome film To Boldly Flee. However, on January 23, 2013, Walker announced the show's imminent return in a narrative video called "The Review Must Go On". The show subsequently returned with a more narrative and sketch-driven sixth season, beginning on February 5, 2013 with a review of The Odd Life of Timothy Green.
I'm gonna live forever, just wait and see
I'll turn into leather from the sun on me
So stick around my fair weather friends the show is free
I'll be on some highway until I fall
And I'm gonna do things my way or not at all
You can see it or you can dream it, that's your call
I won't let this small town be the life for me
When there's so much more out there I haven't seen
Now, I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day
Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be
Yesterday is out of sight, I don't know where I'll sleep tonight
It's a great big world out there and its all for me and the show is free
I'm not trying to sell you on anything
I'm just trying to tell you what I see
Take a look around my friend, the show is free
Now, I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day
Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be
Yesterday is out of sight, I don't know where I'll sleep tonight
It's a great big world out there and its all for me and the show is free
Now, I'm on my way, radio playing, beautiful day
Where I lay my head is where I'm meant to be
Yesterday is out of sight, I don't know where I'll sleep tonight
It's a great big world out there and its all for me and the show is free
