Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport

Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (IATA: YUL, ICAO: CYUL) (French: Aéroport international Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau de Montréal) or Montréal–Trudeau, formerly known as Montréal–Dorval International Airport (Aéroport international Montréal-Dorval), is a Canadian airport located on the Island of Montreal, 20 km (12 mi) from Montreal's downtown core. The airport terminals are located entirely in the suburb of Dorval, while the Air Canada headquarters complex and one runway is located in the Montreal borough of Saint-Laurent. It is an international airport serving Greater Montreal, along with the regions of northern Vermont and New York. The airport is named in honour of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the 15th Prime Minister of Canada.

The airport is one of two managed and operated by Aéroports de Montréal (ADM), a not-for-profit corporation without share capital; the other airport is Montréal–Mirabel northwest of Montreal, which was initially intended to replace the one in Dorval but now deals almost solely with cargo. Montréal–Trudeau is owned by Transport Canada which has a 60-year lease with Aéroports de Montréal, as per Canada's National Airport Policy of 1994.

Dorval

Dorval /dɔːrˈvæl/ is an on-island suburb on the island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. In 2011, the Canadian Census indicated that the population increased by 0.7% to 18,088. Although the city has the largest surface area in the West Island, it is among the least densely populated. Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport constitutes about 60% of the city's land, forcing all of Dorval's population to be concentrated in the southern part of the city.

Dorval is the oldest city in the West Island, having been founded in 1667, and one of the oldest in Canada and North America.

History

The history of Dorval dates back more than 350 years to 1665 when Sulpician priests established a mission on the outskirts of Ville-Marie, a French settlement which later became known as Montreal. Dorval was originally named Gentilly. It was later renamed La Présentation-de-la-Vierge-Marie and finally Dorval. It was incorporated as a village in 1892, a town in 1903, and a city in 1956. (In French it was termed a cité, an old term used to translate the English legal term "city.")

Dorval (Via)

Dorval (IATA: XAX) is a Via Rail station in the city of Dorval, Quebec, Canada. It is adjacent to the Dorval AMT station which is operated by commuter train agency AMT, although the stations do not share any platforms. The two stations are within walking distance of each other.

It is a stop for all trains on two Via Rail lines out of Montreal. A shuttle bus, known as "Air Connect", links the station to Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and is free of charge to Via Rail passengers.

The station is staffed and is a wheelchair-accessible shelter.

Dorval (AMT)

Dorval is an intermodal bus and commuter rail station in Dorval, Quebec, Canada. The AMT station and the VIA rail station are within walking distance of each other.

The station is on the Vaudreuil-Hudson Line of the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) the umbrella organization that plans, integrates, and coordinates public transportation services in the Greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada area. Dorval is in Fare Zone 2, and this station currently has 402 parking spaces. The adjacent STM bus terminal rivals the Fairview Bus Terminal as the busiest in the West Island, but serves as the main interchange and fastest link to downtown Montreal for West Island travelers . The 211 bus route is the quickest link to a metro station from the West Island. Nine metro stations are served via the Dorval bus terminal, the most out of any West Island train station. Roughly 15,000 people transit through the terminus every day or 4.14 million a year.
