Donald Tang
Donald Tang is an American investment banker and businessman. He is President and CEO of Daley & Tang Partners LLC., and Vice Chairman of QRI. Prior to his current positions, Donald served as Vice Chairman, Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., and Chairman of Bear Stearns Asia.
Early life
He was born in Shanghai to college professors. In 1982 he arrived in California after following his girlfriend Jean, now his wife. He worked in restaurants to attend California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, graduating in 1986 with a chemical engineering degree.
Finance career
His career in finance began at Merrill Lynch & Co. in 1987 on the institutional equity sales team. Later he was at Lehman Brothers working in fixed-income institutional sales. He joined Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. in 1992 in Los Angeles as Senior Managing Director. In 1993, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Bear Stearns Asia—he later was named Chairman. From 1993 to 1999, he was based in Hong Kong where he built up the Asia operations of Bear Stearns. He was promoted in March 1999 to take control of the Chicago office of Bear Stearns. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Bear Stearns & Co. Inc in 1997 and was named Vice Chairman in 2001. He was named Chairman and President of Bear Stearns International Holdings in 2003.
