Don't Know Why

"Don't Know Why" is a song written by Jesse Harris which originally appeared on his 1999 album, Jesse Harris & the Ferdinandos. It was the second single by American singer Norah Jones from her debut studio album Come Away with Me (2002). Although Jones's version only peaked at number thirty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, it was a critical success for her that helped establish her as a respected new artist, and subsequently her album sold extremely well. The single went on to win three Grammy Awards in 2003 for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It remains Jones's biggest hit single in the United States to date, and her only one to reach the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. The single was also a hit internationally and reached top 10 in several countries. The song charted at 459 in Blender magazine's 500 Greatest Songs Since You Were Born.

A music video directed by Anastasia Simone and Ian Spencer was released in 2002.

"Don't Know Why" was the debut single by British London-based trio SoundGirl from their shelved debut studio album. The single was released on 19 June 2011 as a digital download in the United Kingdom. The official remix features teen rapper Mann.

Origins

"Don't Know Why" is based on the track "Why (Does Your Love Hurt So Much)" by Natasha Thomas, which was released in 2003 by Epic Records and is in turn based on Carly Simon's 1982 single "Why". The SoundGirl and Natasha Thomas tracks both build on the success of the signature reggae/pop sound of Ace of Base.

Sound the Alarm (Saves the Day album)

Sound the Alarm is the fifth studio album by the rock band Saves the Day. It was released by Vagrant Records on April 11, 2006.

Composition

Sound the Alarm was named after one of the songs on the album that, according to Conley, "sums up the mood of the record." Conley kicked bassist Eben D'Amico out of the band due to him not being on the "same page creatively" as Conley, David Soloway, and Pete Parada. Manuel Carrero was brought in to fill on bass, Conley had known about Carrero for a while due to the band playing shows with Glassjaw.

This album was welcomed by many as something of a return to the band's classic sound, after the sonic departure of In Reverie in 2003. Sound the Alarm is part one of a three-part concept that Conley described in an interview with Punknews.org.

Recording

The album was recorded at the band's home studio, Electric Lady Bug. It was produced by Steve Evetts who also produced Saves the Day's first two albums, Can't Slow Down and Through Being Cool. All of the album's lyrics were written by Chris Conley.

Don't!

"Don't!" is a song co-written and recorded by Canadian country music singer Shania Twain. It was released in January 2005 as the second single from her Greatest Hits album. The song was written by Twain and then-husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The song was also included under the end credits of the 2005 film An Unfinished Life, and in the Brazilian soap opera América.

Music video

The music video for "Don't!" was shot in Oaxaca, Mexico at Quinta Real Hotel and Yucca plantation. It was filmed on October 24, 2004 and released January 2, 2005, it was directed by Wayne Isham. The video is available on some of the commercial singles for "Don't!". In 2006, CMT Canada named "Don't!" the eighth sexiest country music video.

In the video Twain rides a horse through rows of Yucca wearing a red dress, and walks around in the hotel wearing a white dress and corset. Near the end of the video, a tear runs down her face.

Chart performance

"Don't!" debuted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart the week of January 29, 2005 at number 44, Twain's fourth highest debut of all time, and highest of the week. The single spent 15 weeks on the chart and climbed to a peak position of number 24 on April 2, 2005, where it remained for one week. "Don't!" became Twain's first single to miss the top 20 since 2000's "Rock This Country!".
