Doubt

Doubt characterises a status in which the mind remains suspended between two contradictory propositions and unable to assent to either of them Doubt on an emotional level is indecision between belief and disbelief. Doubt involves uncertainty, distrust or lack of sureness of an alleged fact, an action, a motive, or a decision. Doubt questions a notion of a perceived "reality", and may involve delaying or rejecting relevant action out of concerns for mistakes or faults or appropriateness. (compare paradox).

Definition

The concept of doubt as a suspense between two contradictory propositions covers a range of phenomena: on a level of the mind it involves reasoning, examination of facts and evidence and on an emotional level believing and disbelief.

In premodern theology doubt was "the voice of an uncertain conscience" and important to realize, because when in doubt "the safer way is not to act at all".

Impact on society

Doubt sometimes tends to call on reason. Doubt may encourage people to hesitate before acting, and/or to apply more rigorous methods. Doubt may have particular importance as leading towards disbelief or non-acceptance.

Doubt (album)

Doubt was the second album by the British band Jesus Jones, released in 1991. The album reached #25 in the US and topped the UK chart.

According to the album booklet, Doubt was recorded in seven days in May 1990, but "the mixing took a bit longer". While the album had been finished in the spring of 1990, its release was delayed until the beginning of 1991 by the band's label Food Records.

There is a message in the booklet which warns people of "possible damage to musical equipment". It reads:

This message is believed to refer to the song "Stripped", which was not played live until their performance at the Woolley Festival in their native Bradford-on-Avon in 2014 because, as he stated on stage at the time, it was "unlistenable". The booklet also gives small descriptions to the songs. For example, "I'm Burning" is subtitled "A re-occurrence of the B-side that was too good syndrome". The booklet also claims Doubt to be inspired by both legal and pirate radio stations in London.

Jesus Jones have said the songs on the album are primarily about hope, optimism, and enjoying everything around you.

Blurryface

Blurryface is the fourth studio album by American duo Twenty One Pilots. It is the band's second studio album released through Fueled by Ramen. Originally set to be released on May 19, 2015, it was released two days early by the band on May 17, via iTunes. The album was preceded by its lead single, "Fairly Local", released on March 17, 2015. As of January 2016, the album has sold 592,000 copies in the United States.

Background and recording

Following the release of their third album Vessel (2013), the band toured extensively in support of the album worldwide. While on tour the band had a portable recording studio that allowed them to lay down ideas.

"Heavydirtysoul", "Ride", "Fairly Local", "Tear in My Heart", "Lane Boy" and "Doubt" were recorded with producer Ricky Reed at Serenity West Recording in Hollywood, California. "Stressed Out", "Polarize", "Hometown" and "Not Today" were recorded with producer Mike Elizondo at Can Am in Tarzana, California. "Ride" was recorded with Reed at Sonic Lounge Studios in Grove City, Ohio. "The Judge" was recorded with producer Mike Crossey at Livingston Studios in London. "We Don't Believe What's on TV" and "Goner" were recorded with Reed at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, California. "Message Man" was recorded with Tim Anderson at Werewolf Heart in Los Angeles, California. The album was mixed by Neal Avron, with assistance from Scott Skrzynski, at The Casita in Hollywood, California. The album was mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound in New York City, New York.

Mahi-mahi

The mahimahi (/ˈmɑːhiːˈmɑːhiː/) or common dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) is a surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in off-shore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. Also known widely as dorado and dolphin, it is one of two members of the Coryphaenidae family, the other being the pompano dolphinfish.

The name mahimahi means very strong in Hawaiian. In other languages, the fish is known as dorade coryphène, dorado, dolphin, lampuga, llampuga, lampuka, lampuki, rakingo, calitos, ti-rone or maverikos.

Nomenclature

The common English name of dolphin causes much confusion. Additionally, two species of dolphinfish exist, the common dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) and the pompano dolphinfish (Coryphaena equiselis). Both these species are commonly marketed by their Pacific name, mahi-mahi.

The fish is called mahi-mahi in the Hawaiian language, and "mahi mahi" is commonly used elsewhere.

In the Pacific and along the English speaking coast of South Africa they are also commonly called by the Spanish name, Dorado . In the Mediterranean island of Malta, this fish is referred to as the lampuka.

Dolphin (emulator)

Dolphin is a free and open-source video game console emulator for the GameCube, Wii and Triforce that runs on Windows, OS X, Linux, and Android. It was the first emulator to successfully run commercial GameCube games, and is the only emulator capable of running commercial Wii games. Its name refers to the development code name for the GameCube.

Development

Origins (2003–2007)

Dolphin was first released in 2003 as an experimental Nintendo GameCube emulator that could boot up and run commercial games. Audio was not yet emulated, and there were performance issues. Many games crashed on start up or barely ran at all; average speed was from 2 to 20 frames per second (FPS).

Dolphin was officially discontinued in 2004, with the developers releasing version 1.01 as the final version of the emulator. The developers decided to revive the project in 2005 and then in 2007 version 1.03 was released with minor improvements and basic sound support.

Pub names

Pub names are used to identify and differentiate each pub. Many pubs are centuries old, and many of their early customers were unable to read, but could recognise pictorial signs.

Some modern pub names are intended as a marketing ploy or an attempt to create "brand awareness", frequently using a comic theme thought to be memorable: Slug and Lettuce for a pub chain is an example. Interesting origins are not confined to old or traditional names, however. Names and their origins can be broken up into a number of categories:

Methodology

Although the word The appears on much pub signage, it is not considered to be an important part of the name, and is therefore ignored in the following examples.

Likewise, the word Ye should also be ignored as it is only an archaic spelling of The. The Y represents a now obsolete symbol (the Thorn, still used in Icelandic) which represented the th sound and looked rather like a blackletter y. Historically the article was never pronounced with a y sound, even when so written.
