Doi Moi

Đổi Mới (pronounced [ɗo᷉i mə̌ːi]; English: Renovation) is the name given to the economic reforms initiated in Vietnam in 1986 with the goal of creating a "socialist-oriented market economy". The term đổi mới itself is a general term with wide use in the Vietnamese language, however the Doi Moi Policy (Chính sách Đổi Mới) refers specifically to these reforms. The communist government in the north, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV), adopted a centrally planned economy since its inception. Under the command economy, the central government decided output targets and prices, input supplies, domestic wholesale and retail trade, and international trade; the state was aiming at creating a vertically integrated economy where there was no commercial contact among individual production units horizontally. In the agricultural sector, the government formed cooperatives in three stages; production solidarity groups, lower-level cooperatives where land and equipment were shared, and higher-level cooperatives in which a system of workpoints determined distribution of all income. However, the command economy was abolished by the late 1980s following the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Moià (Catalan pronunciation: [muˈja]) is a municipality in the comarca of Moianès, Catalonia, Spain. Since May 2015 it has been the capital of the new comarca of Moianès; previously it was in Bages.

Doi (株式会社ドイ, Kabushiki Kaisha Doi) was a large Japanese retailer and distributor, best known outside Japan as the company that revived the Plaubel Makina 67 camera in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Its roots go back to Doi Shōten (土居商店), also referred to as Doi Shōkai (土居商会). This was a Japanese retailer, distributor, or both, that started in 1949. (Doi here is a surname, shōten means "retailer", and shōkai means "trading company".) In the early fifties it was based in Osaka.

Kimio Doi (土居君雄, Doi Kimio), son of the Mr. Doi of Doi Shōten, started a branch in Fukuoka at some time around 1956. In 1959 this became plain Doi (株式会社ドイ, Kabushiki Kaisha Doi).

Doi provided diverse services, such as professional darkroom work. Retail stores were branded "Camera no Doi" (カメラのドイ, Kamera no Doi); these were known for the array of used cameras as well as competitive prices of new equipment.

By the 1980s, Doi was as large a presence as Yodobashi Camera in the Nishi-Shinjuku area of west-central Tokyo. Its sales peaked in March 1989. However, it faltered in the 1990s and closed down in 2003. Doi Technical Photo seems to have survived this, even running a photography gallery in Yūrakuchō, but now (2006) appears to be defunct.

Doi (surname)

Doi (土井、土居、土肥) are three Japanese family names that are pronounced identically, with the first kanji of each pair of characters meaning "earth." Since they are the same phonetically, they are romanized identically: "do" for the first character and "i" for the second. Their identical pronunciation makes them function as the same surname in languages with writing systems that do not use some form of Chinese characters (for example, the Latin alphabet).
