Taos Inn

Taos Inn is an historic inn located in Taos, New Mexico. It is made up of several adobe houses dating from the 19th century, one of which was a home of Thomas "Doc" Martin which hosted the formative meeting of the Taos Society of Artists in 1915. After Doc's death, his widow Helen Martin converted the houses into a hotel, which opened on June 7, 1936 as Hotel Martin. The name was changed to "Taos Inn" by subsequent owners.

It was added to the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties in 1981 and to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Doc Martin's restaurant

Taos Inn is home to Doc Martin's, a restaurant located in the former offices of Doc Martin. As of February 2008 Doc Martin's has won 19 annual Wine Spectator magazine "Awards of Excellence".

Doc Martin

Doc Martin is a British television medical comedy drama series starring Martin Clunes in the title role. It was created by Dominic Minghella after the character of Dr Martin Bamford in the 2000 comedy film Saving Grace. The show is set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn and filmed on location in the village of Port Isaac, Cornwall, England, with most interior scenes shot in a converted local barn. Seven series aired between 2004 and 2015, together with a feature-length special that aired on Christmas Day 2006. The seventh series began airing on ITV on 7 September 2015 and aired its last episode "The Doctor Is Out" on 2 November 2015.

Synopsis

Dr Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes), a brilliant and successful vascular surgeon at Imperial College London, develops haemophobia (a fear of blood), forcing him to stop practising surgery. He obtains a post as the sole general practitioner (GP) in the sleepy Cornish village of Portwenn, where he had spent childhood holidays with his Aunt Joan (Stephanie Cole), who owns a local farm. Upon arriving in Portwenn – where, to his frustration, the locals address him as "Doc Martin" – he finds the surgery (medical clinic) in disarray and inherits an incompetent receptionist, Elaine Denham (Lucy Punch). In Series 2–4, she is replaced by Pauline Lamb (Katherine Parkinson), a new receptionist, and later also a phlebotomist. In Series 5, Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom) takes up the post.

Harold Winthrop Martin (1887–1935) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics during the 1908, 1911 and 1912 seasons. He attended Tufts University.

Martin's (New York)

Martin's was a specialty apparel retailer in the New York metropolitan area, with its flagship location on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. It grew to six stores by the mid 1970s, before being sold to the operator of Times Square Stores in 1977.

History

A Store Grows In Brooklyn

The history of Martin's dates back to at least 1903. Hyman Zeitz (c. 1860-1930), who emigrated to the United States in 1882, opened a coat and suit department in an existing blouse shop called Martin's at the corner of Fulton and Bridge Street in Brooklyn, New York. He eventually bought out the owner. The business gradually expanded, and in 1924 moved next door into the seven-story Offerman Building. In 1930, Hyman Zeitz died, and his son Fred. J. Zeitz took over as president (a position he held for over 35 years).

In 1947, a modernized entrance to the Offerman Building, designed by architect Morris Lapidus, was completed, replacing the "gimcracks of the victorian era" with modern "simplicity."

RS McColl

RS McColl, or "McColl's" is a Scottish newsagent company named after Robert Smyth McColl, who was a professional footballer. It was founded in 1901 by McColl and his brother Tom.

RS McColl is a trading name of McColls Retail Group, It has been a prominent Scottish confectioner and newsagent and has been owned in the past by Cadburys and the Southland Corporation of America (7-Eleven).

Business background and history

In 1998 RS McColl became part of TM Retail when Forbuoys (a subsidiary of TM Retail) acquired Martin Retail Group, creating Great Britain's largest chain of newsagents. In addition to RS McColl, TM Retail's other trading names include; Forbuoys, Martin's, Dillons (purchased from One Stop Stores Ltd following the takeover by Tesco of parent company T&S Stores),McColls and More.

In 2006 TM Retail was renamed Martin McColl Limited after a management buyout. The various stores were then rebranded variously as Martin's (news and variety stores) or McColl's (convenience stores). The only exceptions were the Scottish stores where the RS McColl name was retained. With this re-branding all other names the company operates under were removed, these included Martins the Newsagents, More, Forbuoys and Dillons.
