Dmitry, transliterated from Russian as Dmitrii (Russian: Дми́трий, IPA: [ˈdmʲitrʲɪj]); Church Slavic form: Dimitry or Dimitri (Дими́трий); ancient Russian forms: D'mitr(iy) or Dmitr (Дьмитр(ии) or Дъмитръ) is a male given name, the Russian version of Greek Demetrius (Δημήτριος Dēmētrios, Greek pronunciation: [ðiˈmitrios]). The meaning of the name is a "devoted to," "dedicated to, or "follower of Demeter" (Δημήτηρ Dēmētēr), "mother-earth", the Greek goddess of agriculture.
Short forms of the name from the 13th-14th centuries are: Mitya, Mityay, Mit'ka or Miten'ka (Ми́тя, Митя́й, Ми́тька, or Ми́тенька); from the 20th century (originated from the Church Slavic form) are: Dima, Dimka, Dimochka, Dimulya, Dimusha etc. (Ди́ма, Ди́мка, Ди́мочка, Диму́ля, Диму́ша, etc.)
Dmitry is one of the most popular names in Russia. The statistics shows that for five months in the period from March 16 to August 16 in 2005 in Moscow: 1390 boys were named Alexander, 1087 Maksim, 1085 Nikita, 1070 Ivan, 867 Dmitry.
Dimitri (Joncières)
Dimitri is an 1876 French-language opera by Victorin de Joncières to a libretto by Henri de Bornier and Paul Armand Silvestre after Schiller's incomplete play Demetrius, a story based on the life of the Russian pretender False Dmitriy I (reigned 1605–1606).Dvořák's 1881 opera Dimitrij was also based on Schiller's play.

Dmitri Royster
Archbishop Dmitri (November 2, 1923 – August 28, 2011) was a hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America. He served as archbishop of the church's Diocese of the South from 1978 to 2009 and was the ruling bishop of the Mexican Exarchate from 1972 to 2008. The territory of the diocese covered fourteen states in the United States – Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Birth
Archbishop Dmitri was born as Robert Royster in Teague, Texas on November 2, 1923 and was raised as a Southern Baptist, being baptized (by single immersion) in the name of the Holy Trinity at age 12. Though his father was non-practicing, his mother was devout. Robert was instilled with a deep reverence for the Holy Scriptures at an early age. It was, for this reason, that he and his older sister became convinced that the spirit of Protestantism and the spirit of the Holy Scriptures were incompatible.
