Sessions (album)

Sessions was a compilation album by The Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1985, but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished, but unreleased, Beatles songs. A single—"Leave My Kitten Alone", with an alternative version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", which was not to appear on the album, as its B-side—was also planned, but it too was left unissued.

"Come and Get It" was a demo recording performed by Paul McCartney solo and eventually handed over to and recorded by the group Badfinger. George Harrison would re-record "Not Guilty" on his album George Harrison in 1979. "How Do You Do It?" had been recorded for a possible early single at the request of George Martin, but scrapped in favour of "Please Please Me". The album also was to include an edit of "Christmas Time (Is Here Again)", from the group's 1967 fan club Christmas single.

Versions of all the songs planned for Sessions would eventually see official release as part of The Beatles Anthology series in 1995–96, with the exception of "Christmas Time (Is Here Again)", which was concurrently released on the "Free as a Bird" single. Bootlegs of various versions of the Sessions album made their way to the public in the late 1980s and early 1990s, some from leaks of internal EMI copies.

Sessions is an apparel company recognized worldwide that designs, develops, produces and markets action sports based products primarily in the snowsports industry in addition to young men's and young women's clothing and related products under the "Sessions" brand. Sessions is headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, United States. Sessions is known for its trademarked star logo.

History

Origins

In 1983, Sessions was founded in Sunnyvale, California by Joel Gomez, a skateboarder from Santa Cruz, California, as a retail store and clothing line that bridged skateboarding, snowboarding, and music.

In 1985, Sessions started an alternative rock music mail order business. The Sessions music mail-order catalog was often included as a circular with Alternative Press, SPIN, and other American music magazines, coinciding with the rise and acceptance of underground college and alternative rock by mainstream media. Sessions was also the first action sports company to create a record label, Sessions Records. Sessions Records featured collectable 7" vinyl records. Some of Sessions Records best known artists include Fu Manchu, Gwar, AFI, Swinging Utters, Audioslave, No Use For A Name, Supersuckers and Foo Fighters. Sessions Records also released Snoisses Vol. 1, Snoisses Vol. 2, Steve Caballero Bandology Vol. 1 and more. Sessions Records was active between 1995 and 2005.

Sessions (compilation series)

Sessions is a series of DJ mix albums, each album normally by a different DJ who also compiles the tracks, released by the London-based electronic dance music label Ministry of Sound. Alongside The Annual it is one of Ministry of Sound's better-known compilation album series. Not the first ever DJ mix album released, or at least first to chart in the UK.

History

The Ministry of Sound record label began in 1993, and the first release on it was The Sessions Volume One, a 12-track mix compiled and mixed by Tony Humphries. It was critically acclaimed and more Sessions were released to critical acclaim and even charted higher in the UK Compilation Chart. Sessions 5, by Masters at Work, was the first double album in the series and every volume since has either been a double or triple album. In 1995, 1997, 1999 (and two later editions in 2003, and one in 2011) is the Late Night Sessions series. The first edition from 1995 was mixed by DJ Harvey. In about 2000, the Sessions series was a joint release between Ministry of Sound and Defected Records. This lasted for volumes 10-15. Volume 12 was the last of the original series of Sessions. It had become more of an Defected release than a Ministry of Sound release evidenced by the fact the Ministry of Sound's logo wasn't even present on the twelfth Sessions cover. Volumes 13, 14 and 15 actually didn't feature a number in the title.

Wax

Waxes are a diverse class of organic compounds that are hydrophobic, malleable solids near ambient temperatures. They include higher alkanes and lipids, typically with melting points above about 40 °C (104 °F), melting to give low viscosity liquids. Waxes are insoluble in water but soluble in organic, nonpolar solvents. Natural waxes of different types are produced by plants and animals and occur in petroleum.

Types

Waxes are organic compounds that characteristically consist of long alkyl chains. Natural waxes may contain esters of carboxylic acids and long chain alcohols or mixtures of unsubstituted and substituted hydrocarbons, such as higher alkanes, long chain fatty acids and primary alcohols. Synthetic waxes are long-chain hydrocarbons lacking functional groups.

Plant and animal waxes

Waxes are synthesized by many plants and animals. Those of animal origin typically consist of wax esters derived from a variety of carboxylic acids and fatty alcohols. In waxes of plant origin characteristic mixtures of unesterified hydrocarbons may predominate over esters. The composition depends not only on species, but also on geographic location of the organism.

Wax (singer)

Cho Hye-Ri, (Hangul: 조혜리), born May 31, 1976, who goes by the stage name Wax (Hangul: 왁스), is a South Korean pop singer and actress. She was the lead vocalist of the band Dog in 1998, and then went solo as Wax in 2000. She has released ten albums and digital singles. In addition to her singing, Cho made her acting debut in 2007. She was cast as the main actress in the musical Fixing My Makeup (Hangul: 화장을 고치고), whose plot is based on her song of the same name. Her hit songs include "Fixing My Makeup" and "Please". She has won three Golden Disk Awards, one each year from 2001 to 2003.

Biography

Wax was born on May 31, 1976, with the birth name Cho Hye-Ri. Cho graduated from the Department of Postmodern Music at Kyung Hee University. Although she has been professionally active since 1998, her personal life has been mostly veiled from the public.

Career

Her debut as a singer was as lead vocalist of the band Dog in 1998. The band only released one album, DOG-1st. The title track of the album was "Kyung Ah's Day", and the album also included nine other songs. After Dog disbanded, she made her solo debut with the stage name Wax in 2000. Her debut album as a soloist was Vol. 1: The Diary of Mom, with a debut song called "Oppa", a cover version (without the suggestive lyrics) of Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop". As of 2012, she has released nine full-length albums and nine other albums. In addition, she has released songs for the original soundtracks of several dramas.
