Divič is a village by the city of Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located on the Drina River, by an artificial lake created to form a reservoir for the HPP Zvornik hydro-electric power plant. The Drina River and the lake are a natural and administrative border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and during the international armed conflict of 1992–95 the village was "ethnically cleansed" of its Bosniak inhabitants by Serb forces.
The 1991 census showed Divič had a total population of 1,388.
In 1910 Divič had 133 houses and 479 inhabitants, all of Islamic religion.
The village is strategically located on the Drina River, which marks the line of the border between Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia. In 1992, in the early days of the Bosnian War, the village was "ethnically cleansed" of all its predominantly Bosniak residents and many were killed. Many of the men who died were killed in incidents in the Dom Kultura prison camp in Čelopek, where appalling atrocities were perpetrated by members of the Yellow Wasps paramilitary group led by the Vučković brothers.
CORDIC (for COordinate Rotation DIgital Computer), also known as Volder's algorithm, is a simple and efficient algorithm to calculate hyperbolic and trigonometric functions, typically converging with one digit (or bit) per iteration. It is therefore also a prominent example of digit-by-digit algorithms. CORDIC and closely related methods known as pseudo-multiplication and pseudo-division or factor combining are commonly used when no hardware multiplier is available (e.g. in simple microcontrollers and FPGAs), as the only operations it requires are addition, subtraction, bitshift and table lookup. As such, they belong into the class of shift-and-add algorithms.
Similar mathematical techniques were published by Henry Briggs as early as 1624 or Robert Flower in 1771, but CORDIC is optimized for low complexity finite state CPUs.
CORDIC was conceived in 1956 by Jack E. Volder at the aeroelectronics department of Convair out of necessity to replace the analog resolver in the B-58 bomber's navigation computer by a more accurate and performant real-time digital solution. Therefore, CORDIC is sometimes referred to as digital resolver.
