DIVE!! (ダイブ, Daibu) is a shōnen manga by Eto Mori and Masahiro Ikeno. The manga ran in Shōnen Sunday. It began in 2007's issue 28. The manga is based on a series of light novels written by Mori and published by Kodansha. There is a 2008 film version directed by Naoto Kumazawa starring Kento Hayashi.

Plot

The story centers on the Mizuki Diving Club (MDC) member Tomoki Sakai. The MDC has fallen on hard times, and their sponsors are preparing to pull their support. They promise to give the club another year of support if the new coach, Kayoko Asaki, can get one of the members into the Olympics in a year's time.

DIIV

DIIV are an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York City, formed in 2011. The band consists of Zachary Cole Smith (vocals, guitar), Andrew Bailey (guitar), Devin Ruben Perez (bass), Colin Caulfield (keyboards, guitar) and Ben Newman (drums).

Initially called Dive, the band started as Smith's solo recording project. After releasing three singles - "Sometime", "Human" and "Geist" - on Captured Tracks, DIIV released its debut full-length album, Oshin, on June 26, 2012.

In 2016, the band released its second studio album, Is the Is Are, after a lengthy and troubled gestation period.

History

Oshin (2011–2013)

Zachary Cole Smith (former touring guitarist of Soft Black,Darwin Deez, and Beach Fossils) started a solo project in 2011. Smith, who originally named the project Dive after the Nirvana song of the same name, put together a live band that included guitarist and childhood friend Andrew Bailey (like Smith, from Connecticut), bassist Devin Ruben Perez (from New York City), and drummer Colby Hewitt (from California and formerly of Smith Westerns). Smith explained to Pitchfork that "everybody in the band is a water sign, that's kind of why the name Dive really spoke to us all."

Dive (Steven Curtis Chapman song)

"Dive" is a song by Contemporary Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman, released as the second single from his 1999 album Speechless. "Dive" was covered by PureNRG on their final album Graduation: The Best of pureNRG.

Critical reception

"Dive" won the Dove Award for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year at the 31st GMA Dove Awards. It was also nominated for Song of the Year at that same event.

Dive has received mostly positive reviews. On the review aggregate site Metacritic, the album has a score of 80 out of 100, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

Erik Burg of Beats Per Minute gave the album a positive review, writing "If you’re looking for booming singles and dance-worthy tracks just because most of Tycho’s music is built electronically, you’ve come to the wrong place. But if you’re willing to put in the three quarters of an hour that it takes to finish the album, and you’re able to free your mind of any forgone conclusions or suppositions you have, Dive could easily be your favorite record this year."Allmusic's Jason Lymangrover called Dive "more multidimensional" than Tycho's previous albums.

Descent (aeronautics)

A descent during air travel is any portion where an aircraft decreases altitude, and is the opposite of an ascent or climb.

Descents are part of normal procedures, but also occur during emergencies, such as rapid or explosive decompression, forcing an emergency descent to below 10,000 feet (3,000 m) and preferably below 8,000 feet (2,400 m), respectively the maximum temporary safe altitude for an unpressurized aircraft and the maximum safe altitude for extended duration.

An example of explosive decompression is Aloha Airlines Flight 243. Involuntary descent might occur from a decrease in power, decreased lift (wing icing), an increase in drag, or flying in an air mass moving downward, such as a terrain induced downdraft, near a thunderstorm, in a downburst, or microburst.

Normal descents

Intentional descents might be undertaken to land, avoid other air traffic or poor flight conditions (turbulence, icing conditions, or bad weather), clouds (particularly under visual flight rules), to see something lower, to enter warmer air (see adiabatic lapse rate), or to take advantage of wind direction of a different altitude, particularly with balloons.
