Disney XD

Disney XD is an American digital cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the Disney Channels Worldwide unit of the Disney–ABC Television Group, itself a unit of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Aimed primarily at children, its programming consists of original first-run television series, current and former original series and made-for-cable films from sister network Disney Channel, theatrically-released movies, and some live-action and animated programs from other distributors.

The channel offers an alternate Spanish language audio feed, either via a separate channel as part of a package of Spanish television networks sold by cable and satellite providers or a separate audio track accessible through the SAP option, depending on the provider.

As of February 2015, Disney XD is available to approximately 80,120,000 pay television households (68.8% of households with at least one television set) in the United States.

History

Launching

Disney XD was launched on February 13, 2009 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time, with the Phineas and Ferb episode "Dude, We're Getting the Band Back Together!" as its first program. The channel debuted its first original series, Aaron Stone, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time that day; the first part of the two-part premiere episode aired simultaneously on Disney XD and Disney Channel. New animated series included in the channel's initial lineup were Kid vs. Kat and Jimmy Two Shoes.

Disney XD (Africa)

Disney XD launched on May 12, 2011 on DStv. It opens every day at 04:00 GMT/06:00 CAT and closes at 20:45 GMT/22:45CAT every day. Most of its series are Disney XD series but some aired series are from Disney Channel. It also airs movies, most of which are Disney Channel originals.

Disney XD (Southeast Asia)

Disney XD Asia (known as Disney XD in idents and commercials) is a cable and satellite television channel that broadcasts in Malaysia, before Southeast Asia, owned by the Disney Channels Worldwide unit of the United States-based Disney–ABC Television Group, operated by The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia. It is aimed primarily at young males, 6–14 years of age.

Disney XD first began broadcasting in Malaysia on September 15, 2012. The channel was expanded to Singapore on March 16, 2013,Indonesia and Thailand on October 19, 2013, and the Philippines on May 31, 2014.

Censorship

Some programming is edited due to local culture and mores to be acceptable to various audiences such as Muslims with the removal of romantic plotlines, violence, profanity and some suggestive dialogue. Other local feeds such as the one in the Philippines may have more liberal censorship policies.

Disney XD (Europe)

Disney XD is a brand owned by The Walt Disney Company used for several television channels in Europe. Primarily aimed at boys aged 6 to 14, the channels feature live-action films, animated shows and live-action series. Some of these channels were known as Fox Kids until 2004 and 2005, when they were renamed Jetix. The Disney XD brand was introduced during 2009 and 2010.

Disney XD Germany replaced Jetix Germany on October 9, 2009. At the same time Disney XD +1 started its broadcast in Germany.

History

Disney XD started as Fox Kids in Germany in October 2000. It aired shows including Get Ed and Jackie Chan Adventures. As of its re-brand to Disney XD on October 9, 2009, it is still airing these type of shows.

Disney XD (Netherlands and Flanders)

Disney XD broadcasts 12 hours a day, time-sharing with Dutch TV station Veronica; however, there is a digital 24-hours version that is available through the operators UPC Netherlands, Ziggo, KPN, Telfort, XS4All and Telenet. Viewers in Wallonia and Luxembourg receive the French version of Disney XD.

All programs are dubbed in Dutch/Flemish or in original Dutch/Flemish language, only on the 24 ours version at UPC and Ziggo there is a dual audio option where channel 1 is the Dutch/Flemish dub/original Dutch/Flemish and on channel 2 is the original language, except some broadcast. Dutch subtitles are most times available through teletekstpage 888, there is currently no DVB subtitles served.

Formerly some programs are broadcast in the original language with Dutch subtitles, mainly in the evening and night. But most programs are dubbed in Dutch/Flemish, except local Dutch/Flemish productions.

History

On 1 January 2010, it replaced Jetix. One month later, a 24-hours version launched on UPC Netherlands, later followed by other providers in the Netherlands and Flanders. In 2012, Disney highly promoted the Disney XD 24-hour channel in magazines like Donald Duck and Tina under the banner Disney XD Extra. There is also extra programming added after 18:00.
