Disney Junior (Netherlands & Flanders)

Disney Junior (formerly Playhouse Disney) is a digital Dutch-language television station for young children, owned by The Walt Disney Company. It only broadcasts at daytime between 6 AM and 6:55 PM. At night a screensaver is displayed. It is available in the Netherlands on Ziggo, Caiway, Caiway Albrandswaard and Caiway Cogas/Caiway Twente. In Flanders it is available on Telenet and Belgacom. Viewers in Wallonia, Brussels and Luxembourg receive Disney Junior (Belgium).

History

On May 3, 2010 Disney Junior started as Playhouse Disney in the Netherlands. Disney Junior replaced Playhouse Disney on September 10, 2011.

Behind the TV channel there is also a Disney Junior program block on Disney Channel from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Disney Junior is an American digital cable and satellite television network that is owned by the Disney Channels Worldwide unit of the Disney–ABC Television Group, itself a unit of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Aimed mainly at children under 8 years of age, its programming consists of original first-run television series, theatrically-released and made-for-DVD movies and select other third-party programming.

Disney Junior also lends its name to a morning and early afternoon program block seen on sister network Disney Channel, branded as "Disney Junior on Disney Channel", airing weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (6:00 to 10:30 a.m. during the summer months and designated school break periods) and weekends from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. Eastern and Pacific Time.

As of February 2015, Disney Junior is available to approximately 74,972,000 households (64.4% of those with television) in the United States.

History

Origins

The Walt Disney Company first attempted to launch a 24-hour cable channel for preschoolers in the United States, when the company announced plans to launch the Playhouse Disney Channel, a television offshoot of Disney Channel's daytime programming block Playhouse Disney, which debuted on the channel on May 8, 1997 (airing during the morning hours seven days a week, with the Monday through Friday blocks lasting until the early afternoon). Plans for the United States network were ultimately shelved, however dedicated Playhouse Disney Channels were launched in other countries internationally.

Disney Junior (France)

Disney Junior is a children's specialty channel in France. The channel offers various programs for preschoolers and older children from Playhouse Disney and other sources.

Disney Junior (Scandinavia)

Disney Junior Scandinavia is a television channel for preschoolers targeting the Nordic countries and Arab world. It doesn't screen advertising and is funded by subscriptions instead. It was launched in October 2006 on the Canal Digital and Viasat satellite plaltforms. Cable networks launched it later on. Com Hem, the largest cable network in Sweden, launched it on April 2, 2007. Before September 10, 2011, this channel was called Playhouse Disney.

It broadcasts between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. (GMT) in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and English.
