Disney Channels Worldwide (officially ABC Cable Networks Group, Inc.) is a subsidiary of Disney-ABC Television Group, a unit of Disney Media Networks, the division of The Walt Disney Company that operates various children and family television channels around the world: Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Disney Cinemagic, Dlife and Hungama TV. In addition, the subsidiary is responsible for operating Radio Disney, Disney Television Animation and It's a Laugh Productions.

Disney Channel was originally established in the United States in April 1983 as a premium cable channel, and has since converted to a basic service; in addition, Disney Channel's programming has expanded internationally with the launch of various country-specific and regional versions of the channel, as well as program licensing agreements reached with television networks not bearing the Disney Channel brand.

Previous corporate names were: Walt Disney Entertainment, Inc. (1982-1983), The Disney Channel, Inc. (1983-1997), Disney Channel, Inc. (1997-2001).

Disney Channel (Netherlands & Flanders)

Disney Channel Netherlands & Flanders (or sometimes Disney Channel Benelux, however this version is not broadcast in Wallonia and Luxembourg) is the Dutch edition of the Disney Channel, owned by the Walt Disney Company. All content is dubbed in Dutch except for the programs that are produced in the Netherlands or Flanders. English audio is also available on most platforms. There are two different versions with local advertisements. It features a mix of original sitcoms, animation series and original movies (presented as DCOMs)

History

The channel first launched on 3 October 2009 on UPC Netherlands. On 30 October 2009 it launched in Belgium on Telenet and Belgacom. On 22 June 2010 it was added to analogue. In September 2011 the Playhouse Disney block became Disney Junior. On 1 September 2011 it launched on Ziggo. The channel was scheduled for a release on Caiway in October 2011, but that has been cancelled. In early 2012 hours were expanded and a new logo was adopted. On 16 August 2012 it launched on CanalDigitaal and TV Vlaanderen at Astra 23.5 East. In July 2013 subtitled programs were moved to late night. In October 2013 subtitled programs were moved to the weekend nights. On 1 April 2014, Disney Channel started transmitting with dual audio channels (Dutch and Original). There are standard no Dutch subtitles, however in most cases subtitles can be activated with text page 888.

Disney Channel

Disney Channel (originally The Disney Channel from 1983 to 1997) is an American basic cable and satellite television network that serves as the flagship property of owner Disney Channels Worldwide, a unit of the Disney–ABC Television Group, itself a unit of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company.

The channel's programming consists of original first-run television series, theatrically-released and original made-for-cable movies and select other third-party programming. Disney Channel – which formerly operated as a premium service – originally marketed its programs towards families, and then at younger children by the late 1990s. Most of its original programming is aimed at children ages 6–14, while its Disney Junior programs are targeted at younger children ages 2–7.

As of February 2015, Disney Channel is available to approximately 96.2 million pay television households (82.7% of households with at least one television set) in the United States.

Disney Channel (Europe)

Disney Channel is a children's television channel owned by Disney-ABC Television Group broadcast in Romania, Bulgaria and other countries. It was previously known as Fox Kids, then Jetix. There are several variations of the channel which broadcast simultaneously in seven languages (using DVB audio technology): Romanian, English, Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, Russian. Advertising is shown in Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Czech, and Russian.

Disney Channel Central Europe is broadcast in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.

Disney Channel East is broadcast in Romania and Bulgaria and has different programming to Disney Central Europe, other variations of Disney Channel are also broadcast in many other regions including Serbia and Ukraine.

Disney Channel (ディズニーチャンネル) is a television channel that is broadcast in Japan.

Programming

Disney Channel airs American, Japanese, British, and Canadian programs. Disney Channel expanded to Asia in 1996 operating also with Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines with live feeds from New York and London since their first broadcast in 1995.

On November 1, 2014, Disney Channel unveiled a new logo and on-air imaging design. On March 1, 2015, WATCH Disney Channel also unveiled a new logo and on-air imaging design.
