Discus throw
The discus throw (
pronunciation) is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than his or her competitors. It is an ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-B.C. Myron statue, Discobolus. Although not part of the modern pentathlon, it was one of the events of the ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least to 708 BC.
History
Discus is a routine part of most modern track-and-field meets at all levels and is a sport which is particularly iconic of the Olympic Games. The men's competition has been a part of the modern Summer Olympic Games since the first Olympiad in 1896. Images of discus throwers figured prominently in advertising for early modern Games, such as fundraising stamps for the 1896 games and the main posters for the 1920 and 1948 Summer Olympics.
The discus was re-discovered in Magdeburg, Germany, by Christian Georg Kohlrausch and his students in the 1870s. His work around the discus and the earlier throwing techniques have been published since the 1880.
Discus (fish)
Symphysodon, colloquially known as discus, is a genus of cichlids native to the Amazon river basin. Due to their distinctive shape and bright colors, discus are popular as freshwater aquarium fish, and their aquaculture in several countries in Asia is a major industry. They are sometimes referred to as pompadour fish.

Taxonomy
Discus are fish from the genus Symphysodon, which currently includes the above species. However, another review of the genus published in August 2007 suggested that the genus held these three species: S. aequifasciatus (the green discus), S. haraldi (the blue/brown/common discus), and S. discus (the Heckel discus). Further arguments have been made that S. tarzoo was not described in accordance with ICZN rules and thus should be considered invalid and replaced with S. haraldi, currently considered a synonym of S. aequifasciatus by FishBase.

Discus (Tim Stuart) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
Publication history
Discus first appeared in Power Man #16 in December 1974, and was created by Tony Isabella and Billy Graham.
The character subsequently appears in Power Man #22 (December 1974), Power Man and Iron Fist #50 (April 1978), Iron Man #126-127 (September–October 1979), Power Man and Iron Fist #110 (October 1984), Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #12 (1992), Web of Spider-Man Annual #8 (1992), New Warriors Annual #2 (1992), Civil War: War Crimes (February 2007), and Amazing Spider-Man #562-563 (August 2008).
Fictional character biography
The youngest son of Tyler Stuart, a warden at Seagate prison, Tim Stuart was employed by Justin Hammer and given a costume, jet-pack, and assorted weaponry. He took the name Discus, as his weapon of choice was a throwing disc; he usually carried disc-shaped flying blades. The younger brother of Stiletto, he was most often partnered, and rarely went on his own missions. Like Stiletto, he was a constant thorn in Luke Cage's side, but he also battled the Heroes for Hire, the Daughters of the Dragon, and Iron Fist. Much later, both Stiletto and Discus were seen in Justin Hammer's employ. Attempting to capture Iron Man, Stiletto and Discus attacked but were easily defeated after their weapons were unable to harm him. He and his brother, while imprisoned, found religion, but soon reverted to their old ways and began working for Deadly Nightshade. However, as Stiletto continued on in his criminal career, Discus has not been seen for quite some time.
