Disarm

"Disarm" is a song by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. It was the third single from their second album, Siamese Dream. "Disarm" was written by Billy Corgan and is one of the band’s most highly regarded songs. Corgan considers it the most personally important song on Siamese Dream.

History

The BBC banned the song from appearing on Top of the Pops, because of the lyric "cut that little child", and it received little radio airplay in the United Kingdom. That lyric along with lyrics like "what I choose is my choice" and "the killer in me is the killer in you" has also led to some controversy, as some read it as a reference to abortion. Corgan has stated that the song reflects the shaky relationship he had with his parents while growing up. However, even with the ban and the limited radio time, it still peaked at number eleven on the UK Singles Chart. In the U.S., the song failed to reach the Billboard Hot 100 but it peaked number forty-eight on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, it also peaked at number five on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number eight on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Grey's Anatomy (season 7)

The seventh season of the American television medical drama Grey's Anatomy, commenced airing on September 23, 2010 on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), and concluded on May 19, 2011 ending the season with a total of 22 episodes. The season was produced by ABC Studios, in association with ShondaLand Production Company and The Mark Gordon Company; the showrunner being Shonda Rhimes.

The season follows the aftermath of season six shooting, amidst which Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) are shot. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) was the most affected by the shooting, quitting her job. Cristina and Owen later marry with "her person" and the show's protagonist Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) as her maid of honor. Meredith and Derek starting an Alzheimer trial, with Meredith suspecting that Richard Webber's (James Pickens, Jr.) wife Adele (Loretta Devine) may have Alzheimer's. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) leaves for Africa after getting a grant leaving Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) in ruins, she ends up sleeping with Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) only to find out she's pregnant, just as Arizona comes back confessing her love for Callie. Meredith messes up the trial for the sake of Adele only to have Alex find out and to tell Hunt leading to Alex being kicked out of Meredith's house, and Derek leaving Meredith with Zola. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) first decides that she's going to give Mark a second chance but later starts a relationship with Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams). Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) starts a relationship with Andrew Perkins (James Tupper) a trauma counselor later falls for her patient Henry Burton.

Disarm (film)

Disarm is a documentary film which spans a dozen countries to look at how, despite a global ban, millions of antipersonnel landmines continue to claim victims daily in more than eighty countries. Defined as a conventional weapon, landmines inflict destruction upon civilian populations for decades after the initial conflict has ended. Disarm juxtaposes government and public opinion- that of diplomats, mine victims, deminers, soldiers, campaigners and aid workers- to explore the issues that both hinder and further the case against the weapon. Visually stunning, Disarm features harrowing footage smuggled out of isolated nation of Burma, scenes from war-ravaged Colombia and Iraq, never-before-seen helmet camera footage shot by Afghan and Bosnian deminers, unprecedented access into warehouses stockpiling millions of Soviet-made mines, and insightful comments by outspoken Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams. Recover is a hard rock band from Austin, Texas.

History

Recover comprised Dan Keyes (guitar/vocals), Robert Mann (guitar/vocals), Ross Tweedy (bass), and Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III (drums). The four first started playing together while in junior high school, under different names, but didn't officially form Recover until 2000. The band recorded a four-song demo in the spring of 2000. The demo found its way to Fueled by Ramen via the band's friends in fellow Austin band The Impossibles. The band would eventually sign with the label and release their debut album, Rodeo & Picasso, in the summer of 2001.

The band toured extensively in support of the album, and in 2002, released a follow-up EP on Fiddler Records, Ceci n'est pas recover. The band continued their exhaustive touring schedule, opening for bands such as Jimmy Eat World, AFI, The Get Up Kids, Braid, Thrice, as well as up-and-coming bands such as Finch, My Chemical Romance, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and Coheed and Cambria. The band would sign to Universal imprint Strummer Recordings, alongside The Rapture and The Mars Volta, in late 2002 and continue touring throughout 2003 and 2004.

Recover (song)

"Recover" is the debut and fourth single by The Automatic, from their debut album Not Accepted Anywhere. Originally released on the 21 November 2005 as a limited 7" vinyl, CD single and digital download the bands record labels - B-Unique & Polydor believed it could perform better and reach a larger audience after the bands success with "Monster". It was released again on 18 September 2006.

Origins and recording

Originally in 2005 the track was recorded at the Elevator Studios in Liverpool, with Ian Broudie as producer, this version was featured on the 21 November 2005 release, as well as on Raoul EP and the UK version of Not Accepted Anywhere. The re-recording of "Recover" took place in Monnow Valley Studio in Monmouth, with Richard Jackson as producer, both recordings were mixed by Stephen Harris. For the USA release of Not Accepted Anywhere the Ian Broudie mix was used again, but it was remastered by Leon Zervos at Sterling Sound in New York, and re-mixed by Mark Needham.
