Dis oui

"Dis oui" ("Say Yes") was the Belgian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998, written by Philippe Swan and performed in French by Mélanie Cohl. The song was composed Belgian singer-songwriter Philippe Swan.

"Dis oui" was performed twentieth on the night (following Sweden's Jill Johnson with "Kärleken är" and preceding Finland's Edea with "Aava"). At the close of voting, it had received 122 points, placing 6th in a field of 25, at the time Belgium's best result in the Contest since Sandra Kim's win with "J'aime la vie" in 1986.

The song is sung from the perspective of a woman pleading with a man to give up his previous relationship and love her instead. She paints various images of the bliss that they can have as a result.

An English version is rumoured to have been recorded but never released.

It was succeeded as Belgian representative at the 1999 Contest by Vanessa Chinitor with "Like The Wind".

Oui was a men's adult pornographic magazine published in the United States and featuring explicit nude photographs of models, with full page pin-ups, centerfolds, interviews and other articles, and cartoons. Oui ceased publication in 2007.

Playboy years

Oui was originally published in France under the name Lui by Daniel Filipacchi (first French issue November 1963), as a French equivalent of Playboy. In 1972, Playboy Enterprises purchased the rights for a U.S. edition, changing the name to Oui, and the first issue was published in October of that year. Jon Carroll, formerly assistant editor at Rolling Stone magazine and editor of Rags and later editor of The Village Voice, was selected as the first editor. Arthur Kretchmer, the editor of Playboy, however, had a role in assuring that editorial choices would be in line with Hugh Hefner's vision.

The intention was to differentiate the audience in mass-market men's magazines, in an attempt to answer the challenge brought by Penthouse, with its more explicit photography, and therefore compete on multiple fronts. At first Playboy considered a direct response by following Penthouse in a nudity escalation (Pubic Wars), but Playboy management was hesitant to alter the magazine's philosophy, based on a more 'mature' and 'sophisticated' audience (one-third of Playboy's readership at that time was estimated to be over 35 ). Instead a separate publication, Oui was introduced in order to pursue a younger readership, offering a combination of a "rambunctious editorial slant with uninhibited nudes pictured in the Penthouse mood."

Azaghâl

Azaghâl was dwarven-king of the Broadbeam Dwarves of Belegost during the First Age. He was slain by the dragon Glaurung after wounding him in the Nírnaeth Arnoediad. The Helm of Hador was originally made for him by Telchar.

B

Balin

Balin was one of the twelve companions of Thorin and Bilbo Baggins on the Quest of Erebor. He wears a scarlet hood. He and his younger brother, Dwalin, were the sons of Fundin, and thus of the royal line of Durin. Many years after the death of Smaug, Balin led an expedition to recolonise Khazad-dûm. Although the colony began well, Balin was slain after only a few years, shot by Orcs as he looked into Kheled-zâram.

Thirty-four years later his tomb and the Book of Mazarbul that told of his expedition and death were discovered by the Fellowship of the Ring.

Balin is portrayed by Ken Stott in Peter Jackson's film version of The Hobbit .
