Seafood (film)

Seafood (simplified Chinese: 海鲜; traditional Chinese: 海鮮; pinyin: Hǎixiān) is a 2001 Chinese film directed by the established writer Zhu Wen. Though Seafood was Zhu's first film as director, he had already gained some experience with filmmaking as a screenwriter for Zhang Ming (in 1996's Rain Clouds over Wushan) and Zhang Yuan (in 1999's Seventeen Years). Seafood was produced independently by Thought Dance Entertainment and Zhu's own Zhu Wen Workshop.

The film depicts a self-destructive prostitute (Jin Ze) who attempts to commit suicide in a resort town by the sea. She is thwarted by a police officer (Cheng Taisheng) whose unorthodox methods of "rehabilitating" her consists of seafood and rape. As a result of the film's dark premise, Seafood has been called "one of the most transgressive visions of China...ever witnessed."

Never released in China, the film nevertheless was well received abroad, where it won numerous awards most notably at the 2001 Venice International Film Festival.

Digging

Digging is the process of using some implement such as claws, hands, or tools, to remove material from a solid surface, usually soil or sand on the surface of the Earth. Digging is actually the combination of two processes, the first being the breaking or cutting of the surface, and the second being the removal and relocation of the material found there. In a simple digging situation, this may be accomplished in a single motion, with the digging implement being used to break the surface and immediately fling the material away from the hole or other structure being dug.

Many kinds of animals engage in digging, either as part of burrowing behavior or to search for food or water under the surface of the ground. Historically, humans have engaged in digging for both of these reasons, and for a variety of additional reasons, such as engaging in agriculture and gardening, searching for minerals, metals, and other raw materials such as during mining and quarrying, preparing for construction, creating fortifications and irrigation, and also excavations in archaeology, searching for fossils and rocks in palaeontology and geology and burial of the dead.

Dig (I Mother Earth album)

Dig is the debut album by the Canadian alternative rock band I Mother Earth, released by Capitol and EMI on August 10, 1993. The album was certified Gold in Canada in its initial run, and stands at platinum today. It also won a Juno Award in 1994 for Best Hard Rock Album.

The album was noted for its metallic sound, balanced with psychedelic-style lyrics and instrumentals, and further backed by Latin percussion. The latter two were often brought into play during lengthy jam sessions.

Dig (magazine)

Dig is a children's archaeology magazine, published by Cricket Media and associated with the Archaeological Institute of America. The magazine targets children aged nine to fourteen.

History and profile

Dig has its headquarters in Peterborough, New Hampshire. The magazine is published several times per year. Each issue is 48 pages, and most of the issues are theme-based, on archaeological finds from various countries. It illustrates what archaeologists have found, and also explore the cultural, scientific, and architectural accomplishments of the societies that left these artifacts. Themes have included "Who Were the First Americans?" in April 2007, and "Australia: Land of the Unknown" (April 2006), and "Machu Piccu" (Nov. 2005). In other issues, the theme might be a broad cultural constant between several ancient civilizations. Examples of this include "For the Love of Money" in March 2007, "Disaster" in Feb. 2007, and "High Fashion" in May 2006.

Most issues also include puzzles and hands-on projects.
