Die (integrated circuit)

A die in the context of integrated circuits is a small block of semiconducting material, on which a given functional circuit is fabricated. Typically, integrated circuits are produced in large batches on a single wafer of electronic-grade silicon (EGS) or other semiconductor (such as GaAs) through processes such as photolithography. The wafer is cut (“diced”) into many pieces, each containing one copy of the circuit. Each of these pieces is called a die.

There are three commonly used plural forms: dice, dies, and die.

In philately, a die is the engraved image of a stamp on metal which is subsequently multiplied by impression to create the printing plate (or printing base).

Aiden

Aiden was an American punk rock band from Seattle, Washington that formed in the spring of 2002. They achieved mainstream success during the mid to late 2000s with their classic lineup, featuring vocalist William Francis, guitarists Angel Ibarra and Jake Wambold, bassist Nick Wiggins, and drummer Jake Davison. Aiden's final lineup featured Francis, guitarist Ian MacWilliams, bassist Kenneth Fletcher, and drummer Ben Tourkantonis.

Style and influences

Aiden have been described as goth, goth-punk,emo,horror punk,screamo,post-hardcore and punk rock. Aiden are influenced by and listen to bands such as Misfits, H.I.M., Nirvana and The Damned. Aiden have been compared to the band AFI.

History

Early Years (2003-2004)

The band formed in 2003 and is named after the character Aiden of the 2002 film The Ring. Their first full-length album Our Gang's Dark Oath, was released on Dead Teenager Records in 2004. It was recorded while Jake Davison and Angel Ibarra were still in high school, being released shortly after they had left.

Aidan (name)

Aidan, Aiden, or Aedan are the primary anglicisations of the Irish given name Aodhán and the Scottish Gaelic given name Aodhàn.

Etymology and spelling

The name is derived from the name Aodhán, which is a pet form of Aodh. It can be used as a masculine or feminine given name. The personal name Aodh means "fiery" and/or "bringer of fire" and was the name of a Celtic sun god (see Aed).

Formerly common only in Ireland and Scotland, the name and its variants have become popular in England, the United States, and Canada. Aidan has been the 57th most popular name in the United States since the start of the year 2000, bestowed on over 62,000 boys, while Aiden ranking 66th, has been used on over 51,000 boys. Other variants are a bit less popular, such as Hayden 88th, Ayden 189th, Aden 333rd, Aydan 808th, and Aydin 960th, according to the United States Social Security Database. "Aidan/Aiden" was the most popular boys' name in Canada in 2007.

The spellings Aydan, Aydin, or Aden are all more common with Turkish or Arabic origins, and have a different pronunciation.

Aiden Grimshaw

Aiden Samuel Grimshaw (born 4 December 1991), also known simply as Aiden, is an English singer, songwriter and actor. He successfully made it to the live shows and finished ninth in the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010. After his elimination, Grimshaw was signed by RCA Records.

On 3 June 2012, he released his debut single "Is This Love", which debuted at number 35 on the UK Singles Chart. His debut album Misty Eye was released on 20 August 2012 and reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart.

Biography

Early life

Grimshaw was born in Blackpool in December 1991 and studied at the Michael Hall Theatre School in North Shore, Blackpool. He played Tom Holmes in an episode of CBBC show Half Moon Investigations. He has a half sister called Libby and a half brother called Leo.

2010: The X Factor

Romantic?

Romantic? is the sixth studio album by the English synthpop band The Human League. It was issued by Virgin Records in 1990 and was the band's first album of new material in four years. Romantic? had several producers, most notably Martin Rushent, who worked with the Human League on their biggest commercial success (1981's Dare) and had walked out of the recording sessions for its 1984 follow-up (Hysteria). Also producing several tracks is Mark Brydon, who would found Moloko several years later.

The album signalled a low point for the band as it was ridiculed by some critics, who proclaimed the album's sound as "dated". The only significant success came from the album's first single "Heart Like a Wheel", which peaked at No. 29 in the UK singles chart and No. 32 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The second single "Soundtrack to a Generation" charted at No. 77 in the UK. Plans to release the synth infused "The Stars Are Going Out" as the third single were shelved. The album itself peaked at No. 24 in the UK Album Charts, and as a result, the band's long-standing contract with Virgin Records was terminated. They moved to East West Records to release their next album, 1995's Octopus.
