Dickies
Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company, more commonly referred to as the brand Dickies, is originally an American company headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas that manufactures and sells work-related clothing and other accessories, including back packs, steel-toe boots, and belts. Its major competitors are Ben Davis and Carhartt.
Beginnings
C.N. Williamson and E.E. "Colonel" Dickie began their business careers in the "vehicle and harness" business in Bryan, Texas. In 1918, they and a few friends established the U.S. Overall Company. Then, in 1922, C. Don Williamson joined with his father and cousin to buy 100% of the overall company on a one-third-each basis and renamed it Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Company.
From its early years, Williamson-Dickie enjoyed steady growth which was slowed only by the Great Depression, and during World War II, the company produced millions of uniforms for the nation's armed forces. In converting to civilian production after the war, C. Don Williamson began a strategy of geographical expansion and established new production facilities, warehouses, and sales territories throughout the United States. In the late 1950s, Williamson-Dickie became an international company by expanding into the European market and the Middle Eastern market - where Texas oilmen introduced the Dickies brand to Middle Eastern oil fields.
2009 Dickies 500
The 2009 Dickies 500 was the thirty-fourth stock car race of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the eighth in the ten-race season-ending Chase for the Sprint Cup. It was held on November 8, 2009 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas before a crowd of 167,000. The 334-lap race was won by Kurt Busch of the Penske Racing team after he started from third position. Denny Hamlin finished second and Matt Kenseth came in third.
Jeff Gordon won the pole position, although he was almost immediately passed by Kasey Kahne at the start of the race. Many Chase for the Sprint Cup participants, including Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards encountered problems during the race. Kyle Busch was leading the race with three laps remaining but ran out of fuel, giving the lead, and the win, to Kurt Busch. There were a total of eight cautions during the race and thirteen lead changes among four different drivers during the race.
The race was Kurt Busch's second win of the 2009 season, his first at the Texas Motor Speedway, and the twentieth of his career. The result advanced Busch to fourth in the Drivers' Championship, one-hundred and seventy one points behind the leader Johnson and seven ahead of Tony Stewart. Chevrolet maintained its lead in the Manufacturers' Championship, fifty-five ahead of Toyota, eighty-nine ahead of Ford, and ninety-six in front of Dodge. The race attracted 5.82 million television viewers.
2008 Dickies 500
The 2008 Dickies 500 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series motor race held on November 2, 2008, at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. Contested over 334 laps on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) asphalt quad-oval, it was the 34th race of the 2008 Sprint Cup Series season. The race was won by Carl Edwards for the Roush Fenway Racing team. Jeff Gordon finished second, and Jamie McMurray clinched third.
Qualifying
Jeff Gordon won the pole position, with Martin Truex, Jr. joining him on the front row.
Failed to qualify: Tony Raines (#70), Bryan Clauson (#40), Chad McCumbee (#45), Max Papis (#13), Johnny Sauter (#08).
Recap
Carl Edwards used fuel mileage to sweep the season series at TMS. Points leader Jimmie Johnson finished one lap down in 15th place, but still led Edwards by 106 points.
