Dick Taylor

Richard "Dick" Clifford Taylor (born 28 January 1943) is an English musician, best known as the guitarist and founding member of The Pretty Things.

Taylor was an early bassist for the Rolling Stones, but left the band to become an art student at Sidcup Art College. Whilst there he formed The Pretty Things in September 1963. He now lives on the Isle of Wight, England.

Career

Taylor was born in Livingstone Hospital, Dartford, Kent, England and he attended Dartford Grammar School. In July 1962, while he was at Sidcup Art College, the Rolling Stones was formed when Taylor, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' three piece, Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys joined Brian Jones and Ian Stewart's Rollin' Stones. Initially, Taylor played lead guitar in the band, but found himself pushed into bassist position to accommodate Jones, who quickly went on to become an accomplished slide guitarist. In November 1962, Taylor left to return to art college, and the band-mates posted an advertisement seeking another bassist. Bill Wyman responded, and succeeded him as The Rolling Stones' bassist in December 1962.

Dick Taylor (Iowa politician)

Richard D. "Dick" Taylor (born April 5, 1931) is a former Iowa State Representative from the 53rd and 33rd Districts. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2000 to 2009. He resigned in October 2009 because of family health concerns.

Prior to serving in the Iowa House, Taylor served in the United States Navy and was an electrician. Taylor served on the Robins, Iowa City Council.

During his last term in office, Taylor served on several committees in the Iowa House - the Commerce, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs committees. He also served on the Natural Resources Committee, where he was vice chair, and on the Justice System Appropriations Subcommittee. Earlier in his term, until November 2007, he served as vice chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee.

Taylor was first elected to House District 53 in a January 4, 2000 special election following fellow Democrat Kay Chapman's resignation. The unusual, early date of the election meant that voter registration deadline was on Christmas and the county auditor's office had to be open on New Year's Day (both public holidays). After the district lines were redrawn for the 2002 election, he represented the new District 53. He resigned from office on October 14, 2009 and was succeeded by fellow Democrat Kirsten Running-Marquardt.

Richard Taylor (English footballer)

Richard Herbert Taylor (born 24 January 1957) is an English former footballer who played for Huddersfield Town and York City.

He was born in Farnley Tyas and played for England Youth in the early 1970s.

He was the goalkeeper on the losing side of the 1974 Youth Cup final. Spurs won 2-1.

Richard "Dick" Tayler, MNZM (born 12 August 1948) is a former New Zealand runner who mostly competed in distances from 1500 m to 10,000 m.

Tayler was born in Timaru in 1948. He is best known for winning the 10,000 metres at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand. In the race he won in a time of 27:46.4 minutes, beating Dave Black of England by 2 seconds.

Tayler competed at the 1970 and 1974 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 1972 Summer Olympics.

He finished 12th at the 1st IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Waregem, Belgium, 1973.

Arthritis cut short Tayler's running career.

Tayler currently resides in Christchurch.

Dick Taylor (football manager)

Richard Eric "Dick" Taylor (9 April 1918 – 1995) was an English professional footballer who made 167 appearances in the Football League playing as a centre half for Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United. He went on to coach at clubs including Scunthorpe, Sheffield United and Aston Villa, where he was manager from 1964 to 1967.

Playing career

Taylor was born in Wolverhampton, and began his career as an amateur with hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers. He made his debut in the First Division with Grimsby Town in the 1938–39 season, but his career was disrupted by the Second World War. He moved on to Scunthorpe United, then playing in the Midland League, in 1948 when he was already 30 years old, and played regular first-team football for five seasons, which included the club's first three years in the Football League. According to a Scunthorpe United match programme feature, he was "the old fashion centre half, brilliant in the air, accurate in his passing and cool in the tackle. Nothing frustrated him".
