Diamond Eyes

Diamond Eyes is the sixth album by the American alternative metal band Deftones, released worldwide on May 4, 2010 through Reprise Records, after their departure from long-time label Maverick. An album tentatively titled Eros was originally intended to be their sixth full-length release and follow up to Saturday Night Wrist (2006), but was not released due to bassist Chi Cheng entering a coma after a serious car accident that occurred in November 2008, eventually resulting in his 2013 death. The release of Eros was put on hold in favor of Diamond Eyes in June 2009. Former Quicksand bass player, Sergio Vega is featured on the album in substitution for Cheng.

Diamond Eyes was a critical and commercial success; obtaining a normalized score of 78 on review aggregator Metacritic, while achieving top 20 chartings on the Billboard 200, German Albums Chart and many other European charts. It was the band's highest charting album on the Billboard 200 since their album, Deftones. Diamond Eyes debuted at number 6, while previous album Saturday Night Wrist debuted at number 10.

"Diamond Eyes" is a song by American alternative metal band Deftones, and the title track of their sixth studio album Diamond Eyes. It was the second single released from the album and their 13th single overall. It was the second single recorded without bassist Chi Cheng, due to a coma induced by an automobile accident in November 2008. Former Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega played bass on the single as well as the entire Diamond Eyes album.

Release

On March 3, 2010, Deftones posted the track listing for Diamond Eyes via their official website, and also announced that the next single, the album's title track, would be released for digital download on March 23. On March 16, the first teaser trailer in a three-part sequence was posted on the website, featuring artwork for the new album and accompanied by clips from the "Diamond Eyes" single. On March 23, "Diamond Eyes" was released for digital download, and radio stations began playing the single on March 30.

In December 2010, "Diamond Eyes" was remixed by Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter's side project, Sol Invicto. The remix was released as a download for $0.99, with all proceeds benefiting Cheng's hospital bills.

Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)

"Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)" is a digital single by Shinedown, written for the 2010 film The Expendables. The song was released on iTunes on June 15, 2010, and to online retailers on June 21, 2010. It is the nineteenth track on the deluxe version of The Sound of Madness. The song was released to U.S. radio on December 7.

In addition to The Expendables, the song was used as the secondary theme for WWE's WrestleMania XXVII event and as WWE Main Event's opening theme from October 3, 2012 to January 22, 2014. It was also used in Formula One's video review for the 2011 Brazilian Grand Prix. In gaming, it is a playable song in Rock Band Blitz and Rock Band 3.

Writing process

On the Carnival of Madness Tour, Shinedown lead singer Brent Smith said this about the song:

Despite this, the song did not make it into the theatrical cut of the film. However, the track eventually made its way into the director's cut, which premiered on various On Demand services in April 2011. It plays twice in the extended edition, with the first being during the raid on Garza's compound and the second during the end credits.
