Detroit (Whiteout song)

"Detroit" is a song by Scottish rock band Whiteout, released as their third single in 1994 (see 1994 in music). Although it was not part of the band's debut album Bite It (1995) on its initial release, there is an expanded edition available which has "Detroit" added as a 13th track. The B-side "Dee Troyt" is a slowed-down, almost acoustic version of the single's title track with some alternate lyrics and layered harmonies reminiscent of The Beach Boys. The second B-side, "Just Passin' Through, Kid"—a country-esque instrumental song—also appeared as the last track on the Japanese EP No Time.

    Detroit (horse)

Detroit (24 February 1977 20 May 2001) was a French Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1980. Unraced as a two-year-old, Detroit won her first four races in 1980 including the Prix Fille de l'Air, Prix Chloé and Prix de la Nonette. She was beaten when favourite for the Prix Vermeille before winning the Arc in record time. She remained in training as a four-year-old and won three more races including the Prix Foy. She was retired to stud where she produced the Arc de Triomphe winner Carnegie.

    Background

Detroit was a brown mare with a white blaze and white socks on her hind legs bred in France by Societe Aland. She was sired by Riverman a French horse who won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains in 1972. As a breeding stallion he was highly successful, being the sire of many important winners including Irish River, Bahri, Gold River, River Memories and Triptych. Detroit's dam Derna had previously produced Durtal, who won the Cheveley Park Stakes and was the dam of the Ascot Gold Cup winner Gildoran. Another daughter of Derna was Valderna, the grand-dam of the New Zealand/Australian champion Zabeel.

    Detroit (video game)

Detroit is a turn-based business simulation game that puts one in charge of a fledgling automobile company starting in 1908 (the year the Ford Model T was introduced). The player is responsible for the financing, research and development, design, testing, production, and marketing of automobile product lines. The aim of the game is to be most profitable automobile business in the world after 100 years.

The game is named after the American city of Detroit which is nicknamed "Motor City" due to the concentration of American automobile manufacturers in the city during the 20th century.

    Gameplay

The player starts off with a factory and a number of distributors. The player is always set against three competitors, which can be either human or computer. The game tends to follow common steps in a project lifecycle which involves the planning of a product, development of a product, testing of a product and its release to the public. The player is expected to follow this process whenever they wish to develop a new automobile.
