Des Dillon

Des Dillon is an internationally acclaimed award-winning writer. He was born in Coatbridge and studied English Literature at Strathclyde University before becoming a teacher. He was Writer-in-Residence at Castlemilk from 1998-2000. He is a poet, short story writer, novelist, dramatist, broadcaster, screen writer, and scriptwriter for TV, stage and radio. His books have been published in the USA, India, Russia, Sweden, in Catalan, French and Spanish. His poetry has been anthologised internationally. His latest award was The Lion and Unicorn prize for the best of Irish and British literature in the Russian Language (2007). Des lives in Galloway with his wife and dogs.

Des Dillon (hurler)

Desmond "Des" Dillon (1926 - 24 November 1964) was an Irish hurler and handballer who played as a centre-forward for the Offaly, Dublin and Clare senior teams.

Born in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, Dillon first excelled at hurling during his schooling at the Cistercian College, Roscrea. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Offaly senior team, before later lining out with the Dublin and Clare sides. He made his senior debut in the 1946 championship. Dillon went on to enjoy a sporadic career over the next decade, and won one Oireachtas medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up as a non-playing substitute on one occasion.

Dillon represented the Combined Universities, Munster and Leinster inter-provincial teams at various times, winning one Railway Cup medal in 1955. At club level he won two championship medals with Birr before later winning a third championship medal with University College Dublin.

With University College Dublin Dillon also won four Fitzgibbon Cup medals.

Des Dillon (rugby union)

Des Dillon (born 25 January 1980) is an Irish rugby union footballer. Dillon emerged as a schoolboy talent at Clongowes Wood College. He played backrow and secondrow for Leinster Rugby until 2007, when his contract was not renewed. He continued to play at amateur level for Blackrock College RFC in the AIL (All Ireland League), becoming the club's captain. He played 56 times in total for Leinster Rugby, scoring 4 tries.
