Derrick Brooks

Derrick Dewan Brooks (born April 18, 1973) is an American former college and professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons. He played college football for Florida State University, and was twice recognized as a consensus All-American. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft, and he played his entire professional career for the Buccaneers. An eleven-time Pro Bowl selection and nine-time All-Pro, Brooks was named AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2002, and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014. He is currently a co-owner and president for the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League.

Early years

Brooks attended Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida. In his senior season in 1991, Brooks carried Pensacola to the state playoff semifinals, where they lost to the eventual champion Manatee Hurricanes of Bradenton, FL. In 2007, he was named to the Florida High School Athletic Association All-Century Team, which selected the Top 33 players in the 100 year history of high school football in the state of Florida's history.
