Klaus Kinski

Klaus Kinski (born Klaus Günter Karl Nakszynski; 18 October 1926 – 23 November 1991) was a German actor. He appeared in more than 130 films, and was a leading role actor in the films of Werner Herzog, including Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), Woyzeck (1979), Fitzcarraldo (1982), and Cobra Verde (1987). He was considered a controversial figure in Germany. Some of his violent outbursts on set were filmed in Herzog's documentary My Best Fiend.

He is the father of Pola, Nastassja, and Nikolai Kinski, born of three different marriages. They have all become actors and have worked in Germany and the United States, primarily in film and TV.

Early life

Klaus Kinski was born to German nationals in Zoppot in what was from 1920–1939, under League of Nations supervision, the Free City of Danzig. (It is now Sopot, Poland.) His father, Bruno Nakszynski, a German of Polish descent, was a failed opera singer turned pharmacist; his mother, Susanne (née Lutze), was a nurse and the daughter of a local pastor. Klaus had three older siblings: Inge, Arne and Hans-Joachim.

Howard Barker

Howard E. Barker (born 28 June 1946) is a British playwright.

The Theatre of Catastrophe

Barker has coined the term "Theatre of Catastrophe" to describe his work. His plays often explore violence, sexuality, the desire for power, and human motivation.

Rejecting the widespread notion that an audience should share a single response to the events onstage, Barker works to fragment response, forcing each viewer to wrestle with the play alone. "We must overcome the urge to do things in unison" he writes. "To chant together, to hum banal tunes together, is not collectivity." Where other playwrights might clarify a scene, Barker seeks to render it more complex, ambiguous, and unstable.

Only through a tragic renaissance, Barker argues, will beauty and poetry return to the stage. "Tragedy liberates language from banality" he asserts. "It returns poetry to speech."

Themes

Barker frequently turns to historical events for inspiration. His play Scenes from an Execution, for example, centers on the aftermath of the Battle of Lepanto (1571) and a fictional female artist commissioned to create a commemorative painting of the Venetian victory over the Ottoman fleet. Scenes from an Execution, originally written for Radio 3 and starring Glenda Jackson in 1984, was later adapted for the stage. The short play Judith revolves around the Biblical story of Judith, the legendary heroine who decapitated the invading general Holofernes.

Nein

Nein (Arabic: نين‎, Na'in, lit. Charming, Hebrew: ניין‎, called in English Bibles Nain or Naim) is an Arab village in Israel that forms part of the Bustan al-Marj Regional Council in the Lower Galilee. Located 14 kilometers (8.7 mi) south of Nazareth, Nein covers a land area of approximately 1,000 dunums. Its total land area consisted of 3,737 dunums prior to 1962. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, Nein had a population 1,600 in 2005. The city hall for the Bustan al-Marj Regional Council is located in Nein.

Location

Nein lies a short distance from Mount Tabor. A hill known in Arabic as Tell el-Ajul lay on the path that ran between Nein and nearby Indur, an Arab village destroyed in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. While Edward Robinson describes Nein as lying on the northern slope of a hill called, "the little Hermon," and it is described in biblical guidebooks as lying at the foot of the Hill of Moreh.

Biblical associations

Edward Robinson and Eli Smith, who visited Palestine in the mid-19th century, identified Nein as, "the Nain of the New Testament," where, according to the Bible (Gospel of Luke 7:11-17), Jesus raised a young man from death and reunited him with his mother.

Hämatom

Hämatom (German for Hematoma) is a rock band from Germany.

History

Hämatom was first formed in September 2004. In December of that year the band performed at The Night Before Christmas in Hollfeld. Demo singles are known to exist for Häschen and Butzemann, both of which later appeared on their debut EP, Nein. In 2005, the band released Nein. They later caught the attention of JBO, toured with them and signed to their Megapress record label, where their next two albums were released. In 2011 the band played Wacken Open Air, gaining them their first international exposure. In 2012 they supported Megaherz on their tour, including their first shows in Russia. In July 2013 the band played at the Sofia Rocks Festival in Bulgaria, photos of them with Rammstein have been circulating the internet. It has been announced on Hämatom's official website that a third album called Keinzeitmensch and single titled Alte Liebe Rostet Nicht are to be released in 2013.

In fall 2013, Hämatom toured with Vlad In Tears performing 8 shows throughout Germany.
