The appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) (French pronunciation: ​[a.pɛ.la.sjɔ̃ dɔ.ʁi.ʒin kɔ̃.tʁo.le]), which translates as "controlled designation of origin", is the French certification granted to certain French geographical indications for wines, cheeses, butters, and other agricultural products, all under the auspices of the government bureau Institut national des appellations d'origine, now called Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité (INAO). It is based on the concept of terroir.

History

The origins of AOC date to the year 1411, when Roquefort was regulated by a parliamentary decree. The first French law on viticultural designations of origin dates to August 1, 1905, whereas the first modern law was set on May 6, 1919, when the Law for the Protection of the Place of Origin was passed, specifying the region and commune in which a given product must be manufactured, and has been revised on many occasions since then . On July 30, 1935, the Comité National des appellations d'origine (CNAO), with representatives of the government and the major winegrowers, was created to manage the administration of the process for wines at the initiative of deputy Joseph Capus. In the Rhône wine region Baron Pierre Le Roy Boiseaumarié, a trained lawyer and winegrower from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, successfully obtained legal recognition of the "Côtes du Rhône" appellation of origin in 1937. After World War II the committee became the public-private Institut National des Appellations d'Origine (INAO). The AOC seal was created and mandated by French laws in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. On July 2, 1990, the scope of work of the INAO was extended beyond wines to cover other agricultural products .

AOC International

AOC International (trading as AOC, formerly Admiral Overseas Corporation) is a multinational electronics company headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan and a subsidiary of TPV Technology. It designs and produces a full range of IPS and TFT monitors and LCD TVs and formerly CRT monitors for PCs which are sold worldwide under the AOC brand.

History

Admiral Overseas Corporation (AOC) was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by Ross Siragusa as the Asian arm of his Admiral Corporation, and later established in Taiwan in 1967 as the first manufacturer of color televisions for export. In 1978, Admiral Overseas Corporation was renamed AOC International. Direct Marketing under the AOC brand name began in 1979. From 1988 to 1997, AOC established its sales offices in United States, China, Europe, and Brazil. AOC was launched in India and Mexico in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Today AOC products including CRT & LCD monitors, LCD TVs, All in One units, and Android Tablets, are available in more than 40 countries globally.

Reign of Terror (Sleigh Bells album)

Reign of Terror is the second studio album by American noise pop duo Sleigh Bells. The album was released on February 21, 2012 by Mom+Pop.

Following the critical success of their debut album Treats, Sleigh Bells started writing new material for their next album while on tour for their debut album, and recorded it over the course of five months in 2011. While Treats used a mixture of guitars and beats that eschewed pop song structures for their overall sound, Reign of Terror emphasized more guitar sounds that follow structures with emotionally heavy lyrics.

The album received a generally positive reception from critics. Reign of Terror debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and spawned only one single: "Comeback Kid". To promote the album, Sleigh Bells toured across North America and Europe.

This is a list of characters found in Darren Shan's The Demonata, a series of books that follows protagonists Grubbs Grady, Dervish Grady, Kernel Fleck and Bec MacConn on their quest against Lord Loss and his demon minions.

"Grubbs" Grady

Grubitsch "Grubbs" Grady is one of the main characters in The Demonata series. He is the protagonist of Lord Loss, Slawter, Blood Beast, Demon Apocalypse, Wolf Island, and Hell's Heroes. Grubbs makes appearances in Death's Shadow and Dark Calling. In Blood Beast Grubbs is afflicted by lycanthropy.

Grady Family

Grubbs Grady's family has been cursed with lycanthropy for many generations before the start of the first book. Bartholomew Garadex, an ancestor of Grubbs', struck a deal with Lord Loss that if he could beat him at three concurrent games of chess, then Lord Loss would cure a member of the Grady family from the curse. The tournament carried on through the generations of the Garadex/Grady family.
