123 Democratic Alliance

123 Democratic Alliance (Chinese: 一二三民主聯盟) was a pro-Kuomintang political party in Hong Kong. Established in 1994 by a group of pro-Taiwan, pro-democracy and pro-business politicians, it aims at striving for the unification of China, to strive for a free, democratic, and wealthy China, and to establish a democratic and prosperous Hong Kong. It remained a small party until it was dissolved in 2000 due to the lack of financial support from the Taiwan government.

History

The party was formed by the supporters of the Kuomintang government on Taiwan in 1994. It was represented by Sin Ling Yum in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo) from 1995 to 1997. It was excluded from the Provisional Legislative Council, the interim body which largely controlled by the Beijing government. All candidates were defeated in the 1998 LegCo elections.

The party won six seats in the 1999 District Council elections. Due to lack of funding, the party did not file any candidates in the 2000 LegCo elections (although some of the losers continued to take part as independent participants or supporters of other parties), and was subsequently dissolved on 3 December 2000 due to the lack of financial support from the Taiwan government. The last chairman of the alliance was Tai Cheuk-yin.

Democratic Alliance (Ukraine)

Democratic Alliance (Ukrainian: Демократичний альянс) is a political party in Ukraine, registered in September 2011, formed on an anti-corruption platform.

History

Before becoming a political party Democratic Alliance was an youth organization. The objective of the organization was "to form a new Christian-democratic, responsible, patriotic-oriented social and political elite of the country through the creation of conditions for the development, improvement and implementation of youth".

The party has organized protests against corruption and fraud and it took part in the Euromaidan protests. Because of its involvement in various protests the party claimed that in May 2012 the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice attempted to eliminate its registration as a legal political party. Members of the party have been arrested while taking part in protests. Two party members were shot dead by Ukrainian security forces while participating in the deadly Euromaidan protests of February 2014.

Democratic Alliance (Greece)

The Democratic Alliance (Greek language: Δημοκρατική Συμμαχία — ΔΗ.ΣΥ., Dimokratiki Symmachia — DISY) was a centrist liberal political party in Greece. It was founded on 21 November 2010 by Dora Bakoyannis, a few months after she was expelled from the centre-right party New Democracy for voting in support of an European Union-International Monetary Fund backed financial stability loan. The party's founding congress took place on 27 May 2011.

On 22 May 2014 the party rejoined New Democracy, and on 11 January 2016 Dora's brother became the head of New Democracy.

As outlined in its founding declaration, the Democratic Alliance defines itself politically as a centrist movement that is ideologically inspired by the anthropocentric values of humanism, the rational thought and personal freedom brought forth by the Enlightenment, as well as the economic, political and social freedom of liberalism as an underpinning for social justice.
