Delaware Route 42

Delaware Route 42 (DE 42) is a state highway in Kent County, Delaware. It runs from DE 6 in Blackiston east to DE 9 in Leipsic. DE 42 passes through rural areas along with the towns of Kenton and Cheswold. The route intersects DE 300 in Kenton, DE 15 between Seven Hickories and Moores Corner, and U.S. Route 13 (US 13) in Cheswold. The road was built as a state highway during the 1920s and 1930s. DE 42 was designated by 1936 between Kenton and Leipsic and extended to Blackiston by 1966.

Route description

DE 42 begins at an intersection with DE 6 in Blackiston. Northwest of DE 6, the road becomes Longridge Road, which changes names to Delaney Maryland Line Road and Clayton Delaney Road before it reaches the Maryland border and becomes Maryland Route 330 (MD 330). MD 330 heads west into Kent County, Maryland and, by way of MD 313, provides access to US 301. From the western terminus, DE 42 heads southeast on two-lane undivided Blackiston Road. The route runs through agricultural areas with some woods and homes. The road reaches Kenton, where it becomes Commerce Street. In Kenton, the route crosses an abandoned railroad line and passes residences, intersecting with DE 300 in the center of town.

Route 42 is an east–west state highway in Connecticut running for 13.58 miles (21.85 km) from Route 67 in Oxford to Route 10 in Cheshire.

Route description

Route 42 begins at an intersection with Route 67 just east of the town center of Oxford as Chestnut Tree Hill Road Extension . The route makes several 90-degree turns as it shifts to Chestnut Tree Hill Road and then to Pines Bridge Road. The road soon enters the town of Beacon Falls, crossing over the Naugatuck River a mile beyond the town line. Route 42 continues along the east bank of the Naugatuck River via a short (0.25-mi) section of Old Turnpike Road to a partial interchange with Route 8, where only access to southbound and from northbound Route 8 is possible. Past Route 8, the road becomes known as South Main Street , a divided four-lane road. 0.7 miles (1.1 km) beyond the Route 8 junction, Route 42 turns east onto Bethany Road while South Main Street continues north into Beacon Falls center.

West Virginia Route 42

West Virginia Route 42 is a north–south state highway connecting Grant County to Mineral County in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. The southern terminus of the route is at West Virginia Route 28 and West Virginia Route 55 in Petersburg. The northern terminus is at the Maryland state line in Blaine, where WV 42 becomes Maryland Route 38 upon crossing the North Branch of the Potomac River.

WV 42 runs concurrent with West Virginia Route 93 upon descending the Allegheny Front, and also with U.S. Route 50 between Mount Storm and Skyline, where WV 42 turns left towards Elk Garden.

Delaware wine

Delaware wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of Delaware. Historically, the first Swedish settlers planted grapes and made wine in Delaware as early as 1638.

Delaware has five wineries that each have limited production, the fewest of any state in the United States. The largest winery is Nassau Valley Vineyards, which makes fruit wines in addition to grape wines. Two others are Pizzadili, a small, family business which opened in 2007 and Harvest Ridge Winery, which opened in 2013.

"Delaware" is a popular song, written by Irving Gordon. The song was published in 1959 and has references to 15 states of the United States. The states were portrayed, in the form of puns, as: Della wear, new jersey, Calla ‘phone ya, how ar’ ya, Mrs sip, mini-soda, Ore gone, I’ll ask ‘er, taxes, Wiscon sin, new brass key, Arkan saw, Tenne see, Flora die and misery.

Gordon was apparently inspired to write the song after the success of another song that he wrote punning on the name of States of the United States of America: "Mister and Mississippi."

The hit version of the song was recorded by Perry Como on December 28, 1959. It was released by RCA Victor Records as a 45rpm single with catalog number 47-7670 and as a stereophonic 45rpm single with catalog number 61-7670. The flip side was "I Know What God Is". The record reached #22 on the Billboard charts in March 1960.

The same recording, with the same B-side, was released by RCA in the United Kingdom (catalog number 1170) where, oddly, it did even better there than in the U.S., reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart.

Delaware is the debut album by American shoegazing band Drop Nineteens. It was released in 1992.
