Rock (geology)

In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids. For example, the common rock granite is a combination of the quartz, feldspar and biotite minerals. The Earth's outer solid layer, the lithosphere, is made of rock.

Rocks have been used by mankind throughout history. From the Stone Age, rocks have been used for tools. The minerals and metals found in rocks have been essential to human civilization.

Three major groups of rocks are defined: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The scientific study of rocks is called petrology, which is an essential component of geology.

Classification

At a granular level, rocks are composed of grains of minerals, which, in turn, are homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound that is arranged in an orderly manner. The aggregate minerals forming the rock are held together by chemical bonds. The types and abundance of minerals in a rock are determined by the manner in which the rock was formed. Many rocks contain silica (SiO₂); a compound of silicon and oxygen that forms 74.3% of the Earth's crust. This material forms crystals with other compounds in the rock. The proportion of silica in rocks and minerals is a major factor in determining their name and properties.

Stone (1751 Kent cricketer)

Stone (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer who played in major cricket matches for Kent in 1751.

Career

Stone played in two major matches in 1751 for Kent against the All-England Eleven. On 20 and 21 May, he was a member of the Kent team that lost by 9 runs at the Artillery Ground. A return match was arranged at the same venue on 22 May and All-England won by an innings and 9 runs, with Stone again a member of the Kent team.

Stone was also named in two single wicket "fives" matches that were held on 3 and 5 June at the Artillery Ground. In both games, he played for Kent against Surrey, Kent winning each time.

Stone is only recorded on those four occasions and it is not known if he played regularly in earlier and later seasons. Players were rarely mentioned by name in contemporary reports and there are no other known references to Stone.

Stone (TV series)

Stone is an American police drama that aired on ABC on Monday nights between January 14 and March 17, 1980. The series was a Stephen J. Cannell Productions in association with Gerry Productions, Inc. and Universal Television (it was Cannell's last series before he went independent) and was created by Cannell, Richard Levinson and William Link.

Premise

The series focused on Det Sgt. Daniel Stone, a police officer who wrote best selling novels on police work based on his own experiences. His superior Chief Paulton, his one time mentor, was unhappy with Stone's writing but was unable to stop him. The role of Det. Buck Rogers was played by series star Dennis Weaver's son Robby Weaver.

Deeper (Meredith Andrews album)

Deeper is the fifth studio album by Meredith Andrews. Word Records are releasing the album on February 19, 2016. Andrews worked with producers, Jason Ingram, Paul Mabury, Seth Mosley, Jacob Sooter, in the production of this album.

Background

The producers she chose to work with to make the music for this album was her husband, Jacob Lee Sooter, and three others, Jason Ingram, Seth Mosley, and Paul Mabury. The lead single "Soar" was released to radio in late-2015.

Critical reception

Awarding the album four and a half stars from CCM Magazine, Matt Conner states, "While already a successful recording artist, Andrews has yet to breakthrough to true stardom, but Deeper might do the trick. The songs are here, as well as the stories. It’s more of the same from Andrews, and we wouldn’t have it any other way." Jeremy Armstrong, giving the album four stars at Worship Leader, writes, "Ultimately, Deeper is a reminder of his promise to complete the work he began in those who love him. And the result is a powerful offering of praise, an offering that gathers hearts toward the arms of the Father". Rating the album five stars for 365 Days of Inspiring Media, Jonathan Andre describes, "Deeper, by all accounts, may even top Meredith’s previous album recording, in both lyrical and musical content." Amanda Brogan-DeWilde, allocating the album three and a half stars by New Release Today, says, "Deeper carries the classic worship album sound and feel. It's soft, positive and drenched in Scripture."

Deeper (The Soft Moon album)

Deeper is the third full-length studio recording from American post-punk band The Soft Moon. It was released on March 31, 2015 by Captured Tracks. First single "Black" was featured as a Best New Track by Pitchfork, and was used in the television series Gotham and How to Get Away With Murder.

Critical reception

Lisa Sookraj of Exclaim! called the record a more polished release that is "fuller, fatter and puts more emphasis on its futuristic electronic elements than its nostalgic ones."

Deeper (EP)

Deeper is the third EP by hip hop duo MadGibbs, which consists of Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs and California hip hop musician Madlib. It was released on September 24, 2013 through Madlib Invazion. Following up on their EPs Thuggin' (2011) and Shame (2012), it serves as the final EP in the trilogy before the release of their full-length LP, Piñata (2014).

On the EP, "Deeper" is an ode to hip hop in the mold of Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R.". Gibbs showcases the yin and yang of heartbreak and anger on the title track which is the tale of two men and the women that "cut them deep." The B-side, "Harold's", is a nostalgic ode to the famous Harold's Chicken Shack – most known for their Chicago locations, but also located in Gibbs' hometown of Gary, Indiana – that served as the backdrop to many of his seminal life experiences.

Music video

On June 3, 2014, Madlib Invazion published the title track's music video online. The clip, directed by Jonah Schwartz, forms a trilogy with the story begun with the two previous videos, "Thuggin'" and "Shame". On said "loose" trilogy story arc, Gibbs' is shown running a drug operation and spending time with his girlfriend, before being sent to prison for a lengthy period. Upon getting his freedom, Gibbs discovers that she has connected with another man in his absence, and also has a son, presumably his.
